  1. Hi guys, hope your doing ok Have not been around much, still helping out around the Island etc, i have also gone back to work part time after a hefty long break due to ill health. Anyway the weather has been rain, sunshine, showers, cloudy, cold, warm and breezy lol There are many community clean up operations going on at the moment on the Island, again we are all pulling toghether and getting the island cleaned up, we still have the army helping us in certain areas of the island. The island has many landslips/falls like the one above and in some places it brings extra concern if the weather was to deteriorate again and rain became an issue.
  2. Morning all Have been incredibly busy over here on the little island, we have had 2 lovely days of sunshine and the temps have been okish too, so clean up operation has been non stop last few days, as many are aware the army has now been drafted in to help the Islanders. A lot of army vehicles came by the ferries, but also you can see some where drafted in my air and landed at cowes, this morning we have had more vehicles land, sorry for some big pictures i was unable to resize a few of them. THE military has been drafted in to assist with relief efforts on the Isle of Wight after it was pounded by severe weather. Around 20 soldiers and two Land Rovers have been flown in by Chinook helicopter this afternoon (Saturday), landing at Seaclose park. More troops are expected to arrive tomorrow (Sunday). A captain and 20 troops arrived by Chinook helicopter at Seaclose Park in Newport this afternoon. They will be on the Island for a short period of time to look at parts of the Island affected by recent weather."A number of areas experienced flooding over the past 24 hours, and with more bad weather expected, the military will be working with the Isle of Wight Council to identify potential areas for support. "With high levels of flooding experienced around the Island in recent weeks, the military has committed to boosting the Island’s sandbag supply and will be delivering additional sandbags to the Island this weekend." The military team has brought its own vehicles to the Island, so residents should not be alarmed if they see troops around the Island, the council said. me alarmed never, men in uniform on the island WOOT!!! Stats Blue Sky Sunny warm NO RAIN NO WIND
  3. Morning all Still the odd gust, but nothing like last night, clean up operation in force on the island and im off out to help the guys and get this island moving again. Have a good and safe day guys PS GLTW there was another beer can doing the marathon on my road at 6am this morning, was it you again, oh and your other personalized beer can was not a typing error GottaLoveThisWeather = Yup cuz some-one has too Right im off outta here to help with cleaning the Island up..
  4. Morning all, well my shed is no longer a shed, more like a large sieve, thankfully the water only came up to the kitchen door and not into my kitchen, and only 2 leaks (builders done a grand job) as for the Island..she is looking pretty sorry for herself this morning Many places still without power, limited public transport around the island, we are all pulling together and getting the island moving and helping each other out. These are only a few photo's, shall get some more later.
  5. It was no doubt recorded yes, however the needles is situated very high up so will give readings of very high wind gusts.. Still very gusty here but appears to be calming down now. Heading to bed now as worst appears to be passing, night all, take care when going out and about..
  6. that is in Newport IOW, very very built up area, it wont cover the Needles IOW as it is over the other side of the island and very much an open area of the island too, i seldom go by wind readings from the Needles because of where the weather station is placed.
  7. lol, some rogue gusts which left shed leaning and panels at bottom gone, and front panel gone will cost ya £5 lol
  8. Reallly gusty now beer can found and culprit
  9. Some places get it worse then others, mother nature will dump her LP's in more places then others, but what i do know is... does it matter whose shed flew the furthest down the street, or how far Aunt nancy's knickers ended up flying too, but what does count is peoples lives and property. Getting very gusty here again, power flickering lots now, have been trying to catch a beer can for past 2 hours that is doing my head in on a mission up and down my road.
  10. Same here, bit of a lull, now really picking up, some major flooding on the island
  11. Many places flooding and now reports of power outages, trees down
  12. http://driftwoodbeachbar.com/webcam/ Not high tide till another 2 hours approx, and this is quite a LOW section of the beach which is 0.5 mile from me Getting very bad out there now, reports coming in from all over the island St Clare Vessel is now underway
  13. Flipping heck, that was one hell of a gust, my god sounded like a freight train hurtling down my road
  14. Its getting pretty scary here to say the least, given up on keeping the shed in one piece, lights are flickering lots more. Stay safe and dont make unnecessary journeys. Don't believe the Needles one..its in a EXTREMELY exposed area on a cliff in the sea pretty much, so will give an exceptionally high reading and not a true anemometer reading
  15. Very gusty here now The sea is now flooding over the defences at Freshwater Bay Wightlink St Clare Vessel is stuck in the Solent and has been for 2 hours unable to move Sea state very rough Severe flood warnings are now in force across the island due to high tides and storm surge Max gust 61.3mph in last hour Pressure @ 975.2mb (falling -2.2mb/hr)
  16. Certainly cranking up a notch here now, some of the gusts are lasting a good 20 seconds and quite fierce All travel to and from IOW is now suspended and reports coming in of a wightlink ferry (St Clare Vessel) is now stuck in the Solent and unable to dock at fishbourne car ferry terminal (you can view ALL live vessel movement with link provided) http://www.marinetraffic.com/ A section of the cliff has fallen at Sandown, reportedly moving a beach hut.
  17. just had one hell of a gust, and yup shed now touching the wall completely Only going to get worse, hatches have 10 tonne weights on them, coffee on the go, really hoping power stays on Ohhh as i type a hugeeee gust
  18. Getting a tad rough here now, 2 trees down by me (which wouldn't of took much due to super saturated grounds), electric has been flickering last 35 mins, Had 2 very beefy gusts in last 40 minutes
