  1. With more storm to come over the next few days, its looking likely that IOW will suffer again more storm damage, as posted few days back Comtpon Bay has took a real battering, now there are new pictures out of further cliff fall in the same area This picture is also the road that runs right next to the car park above, it is now perilously close to road, and no doubt with the heavy rain, super saturated ground it will give way even more, and the red and white barriers will be moved again, or possibly will end up having to divert the road else where. (this picture was taken about 2.5 yrs ago, i can not find a recent one) The picture below gives an Ariel view on the road and how perilously close the cliff edge is now getting to the road (again this picture is about 2.5 yrs old) Once the weather settles i shall get out and about and get some updated pictures of how it now looks.
  2. Well its yuk here, raining, windy and im cold, complete opposite to yesterday spring like day, i can't keep up with this crazy weather lol 992.8 (falling 4.1mb/hr) Rainfall 1.4mm (so far today) Max gust last hour 21.8mph Temp 7.3c Windchill 4.7c Dew point 5.4c Humidity 88% Leaf wetness 15.0
  3. Rings around the Moon are caused when moonlight passes through thin clouds of ice crystals high in Earth's atmosphere. As moonlight passes through the ice crystals, it is bent in a way similar to light passing through a lens. The shape of the ice crystals causes the moonlight to be focused into a ring. This is similar to the way water droplets in the lower atmosphere can bend sunlight to create a rainbow.
  4. With all the bad weather/rain/flooding we have had, if temperatures fall then we could possibly face another problem (many may not of heard of this) so i will explain best i can.. Cryoseism (in English terms Frost Quake)A cryoseism, also known as an ice quake or a frost quake These occur when temperatures drop quickly, ground water (like accumulated rain or even wetness in the soil) immediately freezes and causes the earth to crack open. When water freezes, it expands. Sometimes the ground, especially rigid surfaces like the pavement just can't take the pressure. However this is a rare occurrence in the UK but given how super saturated the ground is, and when the temps start falling then it is possible. Though building materials such as concrete and steel become stronger in low temperatures, they also become less likely to take any more displacement. “Even with concrete or steel, when you put a certain load on them they will displace and create a certain strain and then they will fracture… your materials become a lot more rigid.... The rigidness doesn’t allow for sudden shifts in temperature, say from -5 C to a drop to -15 C. The risk of this happening though like said is very very low, but thought would make a nice read..
  5. Am hoping this wont come off to bad, awaiting the next runs At present talking to my sister in the states (Sturtevant, west of Wisconsin USA), the windchill there is -24 and they wont close the schools till its -34
  6. Ok this is NOT normal, i have washing drying on the line and its hardly moving, the sun is out and only few clouds about. Looks at the washing.. yup..still on the line and not 5 doors down stuck over their shed all dirty again.. Its lovely outside, but a notable chill in the air today. Have looked through the models again and crikey is best word tbh Im hoping that this will be the last of this terrible onslaught and the dry up process can begin for many of us Temp 8.4c Windchill 5.8c Slight breeze 990.0mb (rising 0.8mb/hr)

Certainly is awful and 1000's of ppl affected, the clean up process will be a nightmare, the cost, well i cannot begin to imagine what that will be, this will not be forgotten and many people's lives will have changed because of this dayum weather we are having at the moment. Incredible photo's and thank-you for sharing with us.

  14. Good morning all, hope your all have a fine Sunday and enjoying the calmness, sunshine ,less windy and chilly day (well im cold anyway) even though it is reading 7.8c Stats Temp 7.8c Dew point 3.5c Windchill 4.3c 987.1mb (rising 3.1mb/hr) Humidity 87% Max gust last hour 34.0mph (questionable) Rainfall today 0.4mm Rainfall monthly 57.6mm Cloud base 536m Soil moisture 19.0cb Leaf wetness 0.0 I am at some point today maybe going out with camera to get some pictures of around the island, however i did not sleep very well due to having Asthma, so if i feel up to it then i shall get some more pictures, but in the meantime coffee is good, so is the bacon bap
  15. Some pretty heavy showers heading over the island some of which have hail in it. Max gust last hour 74.2mph http://www.raintoday.co.uk/ The picture below shows how bad the flooding is on the islands roads and land and this is on one very small section of the island shown in the picture
  16. Tomorrow i am going out with the camera and taking a compilation of pictures of around the WHOLE of the island, however i shall not put myself in any danger and will be staying away from sea fronts, cliffs etc. I have quite a zoom on my camera so i will not need to get close. GLTW the islands face has changed considerably since this onslaught of LP's and im sure it will change further, but us islanders all pull together and help each other out, come summer time this island will show of its beautiful natural land once again and all this bad weather will be forgotten about.. Love the island no matter how much it has changed or how different it will look
  17. IOW pictures of the storm damage it has took recently Below is a popular place for holiday goers, as you can see many won't be visiting this area of the island in the summer Picture below is Morton Common road, houses either side of this road and a river also runs under the road
  18. Winds have stepped up a notch here now Gusts of 42.6mph 7.6mm of rain today and more to come Err 3 i think
  19. Tell me about it, every time i think its safe to take dog out for a walk the skies darken, dog looks at me as if to say I'm not going anywhere Max gust last hour is 40.3mph Rain today totaling 7.5mm Crazy weather to say the least.
  20. Some-one find out who did this, call the Weather Police Its actually a really nice day outside and quite calm, but somehow i think it will go down hill as the day goes on. so i thought this would make people laugh I spoke far to soon, its hammering it down here and wind really picked up and gone very dark
  21. Morning all Stats 978mb (falling 0.1mb/hr) Wing gust 41.1mph (last hour) Temp 5.8c Dew point 3.9c Soil moisture 18.0cb Leaf wetness 15.0 Rainfall today 7.2mm Rainfall monthly 53.8mm Humidity 88% Below is a huge tailback of cars trying to get out of Sandown, the picture below is the fields either side of this road, its looking possible that access in and out of Sandown will be shut off And with more rain to come its most likely it will be, stay safe out there guys, dont do stupid things, i have said many times before lives are worth more then a picture, flood waters are very dangerous and you dont no what is underfoot. Its windy here but not that bad, few heavy showers, had a hailstorm about an hour ago with flash of lightning, but calmed down since.
