  1. Andy, I much prefer the days of the magentic symbol... the forecast seemed to be much more accurate!!! You're right they do earn a lot of money and that should mean better forecasts. But... if they had said snow, mass panic would have ensued. The snow isn't causing me any disruption, but if they'd forecast snow across the whole of south Wales last night then we'd all start twitching. I do think the new weather maps that are awful. Have you noticed where the weather is getting tricky to forecast they have started not using them, putting up city centre summaries instead...? Of course, the new weather graphics are produced by a third party - the same third party trying to get the BBC weather contract off the MetOffice! Draw your own conclusions....
  2. Drizzle starting to push in now. Does it really matter if the forecasters don't quite get the snow right, if it doesn't stick anyway? Ground temps are too high for any significant snow it would seem...
  3. Snowing in Carmarthen town, St. Clears, Narberth and Haverfordwest. All very wet and no accumulations. I guess it all depends on how quickly that mild air pushes up from the south returning us to the more familiar wearther we are used to.

  5. And there is an actual met office forecaster in the city too - because someone has to provide information to the likes of WAG! I've actually seen met office weather warning faxes from Cardiff - bilingual so I know they do exist. Matt Taylor worked at the Commercial office in Cardiff. http://news.bbc.co.uk/weather/hi/about/newsid_7844000/7844607.stm
  6. Their main office is in Exeter, but they do have a forecaster in Cardiff somewhere too.
  7. We do have a Met Office in Cardiff. They don't seem to be front facing!!!!
  8. The National BBC weather seems to have the overnight showers over Devon and Cornwall and into the south of England. I guess we'll have to see what Derek says in a few minutes time! UPD: Just a few showers tomorrow says Derek! Seems like that band has pushed southwards?
  9. First point, the snow showers are highly localised. Have a great location at home where I can see the snow showers pushing in over the hills. I can vouch that even a mile or two can make the difference between snow and no snow. On the weather warning issue. There does seem to be a tendancy for severe snow warnings to be ignored for the west of Wales. It is assumed that because Pembs is surrounded by water on three sides, that snow never falls. I had an argument with the Met Office once about no snow warning for Pembs, when I knew full well four foot drifts and heavy snow was falling! A similar incident occured a few weekends ago, when a streamer delivered a fair few cms and yet there was little about it on the met website. There is all this talk of local forecasting, but that tends to work for some areas better than others. We have to remember that for most of our media and weather forecasters are English or based in England. There is a lack of relatability to Wales, Scotland and NI apart from in the broadest terms.
  10. It was -2 when I left home this morning, even where I live although we're rural we're up high and exposed so never get the thickest of frosts. This morning was a real surprise, frost early on last night, then some freezing fog. Everything was white this morning. Then driving east it got progressively milder. Amazing that over a few miles the temps rose by 5c. A few flakes in the sky. So where is the cold line sitting now. Clearly it is alot colder in west Wales this morning than further east - yet you're having all the snow!
  11. I think we'd better face up to the fact that snowfall amounts are going to be limited in the next week or so. Recent rain showers in Carmarthenshire and it is way too mild. No frost for nights now. So the ground isn't that cold either, even if we get snow it will probably melt away. I guess Powys might see some overnight snowfall. Shame the low tracked further west - it could all have been so different! Still an interesting set of weather patterns, we don't usually get lows from the north.
  12. I know Andy, you just built up all my hopes! LOL! Now I'll be left with a big damp patch where the snow should have been!
  13. I reckon the East might get a bit. South West Wales on the other hand... probably not the rain fall here will be lighter into next week as the band moves SE. Oh well... cold and wet! yuk!
  14. I'm sure Derek will reveal all in about 15minutes time on BBC1!
  15. What is the weather going to be like in Swindon next week??? Thanks!
  16. Isn't it always.... !!! Still very cold here today, and this blue skies weather is very good for the soul..! Let's hope we have similar set ups during the summer, with high sitting to our south..
  17. Current Metoffice 3 day forecast: Outlook for Saturday to Monday: Rather cloudy on Saturday but mostly dry. Rain spreading southwards to many parts during Sunday, with further rain and some hill snow for Monday.
  18. fab... some positive news! I was starting to get worried that we might miss out. A few grains on top of the car, but largely dry with an amazingly clear atmosphere - can see millions of stars tonight. Let's hope it doesn't get too mild, we want the snow to settle and stick around for a bit. Watching CBS news earlier.. Baltimore has had 72inches of snow..... I'd settle for just a couple right now!
  19. Sorry that should be for tomorrow night... This is what he said: http://news.bbc.co.uk/weather/forecast/2277?count=10 and watch the local forecast.
  20. Derek just said Rain for parts of Pembrokeshire tonight... how disappointing? Also a balmy 6c by Friday possibly 7c according to GMTV this morning, who admittedly seem to be very good on the detail. So where do we go from here. Against all of that, a tremendous frost this morning, really thick over the cars - like a covering of snow. Lovely and clear today, the sunshine really does make you feel good.
  21. Oh no, according to Derek (BBC) it could be RAIN or snow on Friday... 5c... it'll certainly melt. Bit greyer now down west but clouds too high to deliver anything.
