  1. Well it is drizzling and fairly misty here with me right now. Possibly low cloud, we do get that a lot. Current temps... 5.8c Dewpoint 5.3, humidity 97%.
  2. yeah, the top ups helped, and we got a good load the Friday after the first lot arrived. so all in all about 12 inches. I think it beat 2010 here, because the snow was so heavy on the trees and hedges, literally dragging the branches down.
  3. next week isn't looking that cold is it? Are we slowly starting to see a rise in temps? Totally out of the model loop...
  4. Had a twitter convo with Derek Brockway earlier, suggested snow settling in an area from SE England, Midlands, Wales, northern England and eastern Scotland but accumulations patchy. Still can't see it happening over Pembs or carms.
  5. We hope not. How much did Clarby road get in January? Had quite a bit up here. I was surprised temps today were something like 7.6c mid afternoon.
  6. I'd love another fall before spring... being totally greedy though, cos we've already had 12inches!
  7. so how is the rest of next week looking - haven't had a chance to look at the charts? Is the atlantic knocking on our door?
  8. There is an aversion to forecasting snow by the forecasters. They do err on the side of mild caution. Probably with good reason this time, it's not exactly COLD at the moment, haven't had much of a frost or ice here. It's just not been the arctic blast we thought we'd be getting this time last week. After the mild spell, and the cold was coming it was widely forecast to be a brief return to cold.
  9. I'd say it might be marginal, especially further west at this stage. Be good if things changed!
  10. It's been a complete whiteout here this afternoon. Never seen snow fall so fast...
  11. Extremely difficult conditions here and up around Crymych, Maenchlohog and MynachlogDdu. Many areas which are outside of the 'yellow' warning area issued by the MetOffice. I'm sure that the intensity warrants an amber warning. Even the yellow warning came late and hasn't really given schools the opportunity to make early decisions about closing.
  12. Update from Pembrokeshire Council. Situation Update 2.30pm Precipitation is falling as snow in central and northern parts of the county. The band of weather is currently travelling from South East to the North West. It is expected to have cleared the county by 5pm but may cause short term disruption. Currently the following schools are closed: Ysgol Preseli, Crymych Ysgol y Frenni, Crymych Ysgol Clydau, Tegryn Tavernspite Partially Open Also Whitland school is closed. At present all main routes are open. The A478 has snow settling but remains passable with care.
  13. Snow falling over east Pembrokeshire and west Carmarthenshire at the moment. The stuff over Devon and Cornwall, is that headed north or north west?
  14. so much for this cold snap. everytime is snows is preceeded by rain! any chance of the beast from the east actually returning (after the mild spell forecast for the weekend)?
  15. That's the MetOffice for you. But probably best not to challenge them about it. I was in the Amber area last Friday, but to be honest it probably should have been red at the time. We had quite a bit of snow but because we're out west it doesn't seem to resonate as much.
  16. Carmarthenshire Council have published this weather update... Weather update: Light snow or sleet showers this afternoon. The snow showers will become more isolated after mid evening with RSTs below zero from soon after dusk. Thicker cloud will bring a band of snow after midnight to many areas, probably sleet at lowest levels. There is uncertainty regarding the persistence of this snow/sleet through to tomorrow morning but further outbreaks are likely at times, possibly quite heavy on higher ground.
  17. latest update from Pembrokeshire County Council: Weather forecast for Monday 21st: • Snow / sleet showers this afternoon mainly over hills and inland, rain / sleet around coasts. The accumulation of snow is anticipated to be only up to 1cm on hills. • Dry spells developing this evening. • Thicker cloud will bring a band of hill-snow and sleet after midnight to many areas, probably rain at lowest levels. There is uncertainty regarding the persistence of this snow through to tomorrow morning but further outbreaks are likely at times on hills. Snow amounts late tonight and tomorrow morning are highly uncertain but an extra 2-4cm possible by midday on higher ground.
  18. 5 / 6 inches widely at my location with more in the drifts. I could have been in the 'red zone' as far as the Met are concerned!!
  19. Temps starting to fall here. Now 2.8 with a dewpoint of 1.1c...
  20. Still snowing lightly here. Temp around -0.1, dew point of -0.9. The air feels remarkably cold even though it is snowing.
  21. They take no account of topography which can play a difference in accumulations...
  22. is it an appropriate time to say 'partial' - from MTV right?
  23. the influence of the sea. -0.2c here. Quite surprised about that as it is snowing!
