Thank God I’m going to the south of France next month for a week or two. Absolutely appalling summer here.

The unsettled weather continues for the foreseeable taking us deep into July. Any substantial improvement will have to wait until the second half of summer and we all know how terrible Augusts have been in general for 17 years now. The weather has been abysmal here. If we manage to squeeze out another 2-3 day hot wonder before the end of summer it would elevate it to a 3/10 in my book - and the 3 is because I’ve managed to see some lightning in the distance one evening and managed to chase one small storm 15 miles away. For my exact location it’s been a solid 2/10. Its my feeling there has certainly been a climatological shift in the past few years with our summers now occurring between April-June. With that in mind, I’m ready to basically throw in the towel for this summer which began its autumn transition on June 26th! A record in terms of early-onset, beating out 2017’s mid-July arrival. 9 months until I can look forward to summer again - throw Covid into a mild and wet autumn/winter and it’s going to be a real treat.

First autumn pang today. Earliest I can recall it being. Took the dog out about 8.00pm - sun was lower in the sky which simulated autumn light and it was about 12 degrees in the frigid gusty wind. Felt like mid October.

Garbage.

You get storms in summer and snow in winter though. Here in Hampshire we rarely get either.

Nippy out there this evening and blowing a gale. Is this a named storm?

It’s cooling down pretty rapidly here now with a keen breeze. Sad times. Nothing similar in the offing for at least the next 14 days.

This is the summer moans thread where you will often find heat seekers moaning about poor weather in summer. In the Winter moans thread, you will often find cold seekers moaning about poor weather in the winter. It gets boring when you guys basically tell us not to moan or expect different in the moans thread. Temp steadily falling away here now, doesn’t feel anywhere near as oppressive as it did earlier with a fairly brisk breeze at times.

Summer goes out with some nice Accas anyway.

Quite a bit of mid level instability here in the form of Accas etc. Shame it will literally come to nothing.

And so the heat goes out with a whimper in Hampshire as is often the case since 2007. How predictably boring.

Just got home. Was a very refreshing drive if nothing else. Activity was there for about 15 minutes with some big distant orange bolts but then it abruptly ceased. Took a weird photo of my mate looking like a renaissance oil painting though.

Interesting to see he’s extended his box east. I was beginning to lose all hope.

Honestly driving back to Andover was crazy. Flashes in all directions every second and the odd fork coming down and striking in the distance. Genuinely as close to anything representing War of the World’s I’ve seen.

In fairness, I’m pretty sure last July’s forecast from the models wasn’t particularly inspiring for my location - but it was one of the best light shows I’ve ever seen when it went off.
