  1. Arpege and Arome both keep everything wayyy to the west of me. HIRLAM looks a little better - a 50 mile shunt east would be the jackpot. GFS probably the pick of the bunch. Really would like to see the better higher res models start shunting this thing east.
  2. Posted by Smartie over on UKWW 7.5km WRF grid initialised with the 00Z GFS run: Look at the size of that monster. Shame if lightning is concentrated on its western flank though
  3. Yeahhh. I’ll probably go sit in a field somewhere facing south and get the old camping chairs/wireless speaker out the boot. A nice relaxing evening out in the shire if nothing else.
  4. So the UKV now suddenly not showing anything for us. Probably give it a miss then.
  5. I’m gonna jinx the whole thing, but we NORMALLY do pretty well in these scenarios. Don’t quote me on this in 36 hours time. Thanks.
  6. When I run through the frames of GFS, it almost looks as if any storm activity forming Thursday night over the south will move from west to east which is a little different from the more traditional south to north.
  7. Was it summer 2016 or 17 that ended in July? I remember a stormy evening in July and summer never recovered and Autumn started in earnest. Wonder if it’ll be the same story this year but even earlier to punish us for the glorious spring.
  8. Shows stuff starting to fire in the channel though. Around 10pm is the point I’m usually trying to retain my bored friend’s interest by looking at the radar and telling them things are starting to happen. 11ish is usually when we see the first distant flicker and they settle down.
  9. Yes I was going to say, that looks too good to be true. I swear for the July event last year, UKV had it a little further west or east and I went out on the off chance more than anything. Worrying.
  10. That’s fair - haha the poster in question sounds like me! I have to say I don’t think anyone here would wish actual hardship on anyone, but it is a weather forum and I guess we are going to be tempted by extremes. I mean I hate the cold with a passion but if it was a toss up between -10 or a record breaking -25 or something, I would want the -25 to come off sheerly out of curiosity and to witness something historic. I’m sure I would hate every second of it, but I would still be drawn to it. Humans are weird.
  11. I get what you’re saying, but would you/do you criticise others on the forum for wanting extreme cold and snow in the winter months with such fervent vigour?
  12. Weather looking decidedly blehhh after this brief hot spell. Definitely going to get on and book a trip to south of France for the end of August in-case summer never really comes back.
  13. Everything on standby for Thursday then. Probably drive to the same field I drove to last July and nearly locked myself out of my car in the panic and lost part of my hubcap haha.
  14. GFS has storms moving into the south from around midnight on Thursday.
  15. Fingers crossed for a late night show. I’ll take anything but the idea of 6am storms from an elevated slate grey sky doesn’t whet my appetite as much.
  16. It’s a weather forum - people here are very likely to be drawn to the more extreme side of weather whether it be cold or hot. Where do all these posters come from in the summer? It’s like the heat-haters have burner accounts or something.
  17. I work in a tin box with no air conditioning at all, so no.
  18. Sleep is harder for sure, but under a thin sheet with the fan on me it’s not so bad. I sleep less in the summer anyway due to the early morning light but I also feel way less tired regardless.
  19. I’ve always thought of August as an autumn month. It’s usually underwhelming weather-wise, the shadows have gotten longer and the oranges and yellows are starting to appear. May, June and July are the summer and the best portion of the year for me - again, often reflected in the weather.
  20. 3 whole days of summer coming up! Can’t wait!
  21. I’m not bothered about a breakdown as long as it’s thundery - however, in recent years the heat just sort of fizzles out with drizzle moving in.
