  1. Maybe to the south Matt, but here in Stoke Gifford we have about 4 inches and it's good quality snow.
  2. Just started to chuck it down with snow again here
  3. Sure has Michael. About 4 inches in my back garden Still snowing very very lightly; but feels slightly warmer so i reckon will turn sleety. I think to our east and north into cotswolds got hit harder. I reckon this is the best snowfall in BTL since Feb 1995. But still not a patch on 87, 84, 81 or 78/79.
  4. Just got up and we have above 4 inches of snow here in north bristol. Looks beautiful out there. My walk to work will be a joy this morning! Did get up at 3.30 to have a look outside and was amazed! It was chucking it down and we'd already had 3 inches I reckon. Anymore to come guys? Amazing to think that 12 hours ago it was forecast to go north and not really come to much here. I see even further south you've had snow. Don't you just love the surprises the British weather throws up!?
  5. OK. Looks like rain coming up behind; hope it turns to snow by time it gets here.
  6. Dogs...any chance of a quick radar update? Meto one is still showing at 10.30
  7. Just to keep 'The east and S.E.' up to date. absolutely chucking it down with snow, here in north bristol. Only been snowing 15 mins and already everything's white. And what a change in emphasis on the BBC weather, just now after the main news. BTL is the main area to be hit tonite. Don't you just love the unpredictable nature of the British weather!
  8. Absolutely chucking it down, here in north bristol; just swept in out of nothing. Darren bett on BBC news weather just now mentioned BTL as the main area for tonite's snow - that is v.different from earlier forecast.
  9. UPGRADE ALERT!!! BBC News weather, right now, snow for Bristol thru' the night. Darren Bett even mentioned Bristol as the main focus of tonight's snow. This was a definite upgrade. White all around BTL on charts right thru' night and into morning  EDIT: Absolutely chucking it down!!! That lampost has never looked so good!!
  10. Snowing now in stoke gifford, north bristol or south gloucs, whichever you prefer!
  11. Beg to differ John. The title does not refer solely to last 10 years, nor anywhere does it mention specifically to cold; it's asking for our own thoughts and that's what people have given. It does not qualify that it requires stats either...so people are bound to give their thoughts which for some mean that 'ranking' could be in terms of snow only, cold, mild or whatever floats your boat.
  12. to the north BTL contingent: Looks like we're in a 'clear' slot at mo....still not a single flake! And the main band seems to be heading east Anyone post a radar update?
  13. Yeah! OMG! It certainly looks like it's heading for 'The Smoke'! There'll be a right auld knees up going on if that happens!
  14. Still zilch all here in north BTL. Is the precipitation heading to the east of BTL?
  15. Not arguing that it's not been colder than recent years, but in the context of my lifetime still relatively 'poor' for me, personally....i'm a snow lover. Even the 'poor' winters (in terms of snowfall) of my youth, we would have had more than we've had this winter and that's in balmy bristol! Winters in the UK really have changed IMO.
  16. That's the beauty!! Here's hoping the TV forecasters are wrong and we get a prolonged spell with no movement further north than your goodself! No flakes, here, in north BTL at the mo
  17. Should be in BTL in next hour then, by look of that radar (thanks Dogs). But main band to follow later i think.
  18. My better half thinks i'm completely bonkers! In work they think i'm a bit weird....but i know secretly that most grown-ups luv snow!!
  19. Oh c'mon guys! This is a 'wait and see' event; even the pros don't really know for sure and the 'best' on NW cannot call it.
  20. Michael, it's a wait and see situ. I think it's breaking up; i'm calling patchy sleet/snow for early hours, turning to rain by dawn, then poss sleet/snow for first part of morning, before dying out by mid-morning. All-in-all not worth the bother! Sorry, probably my age showing thru', after some great winters back in the day!
  21. Have to agree with you. In BTL we've had two snow events (i) Mon 5th Jan - a dusting and (ii) Mon 2nd Feb - about 2inches and it's melted. we had more than 2 snow events in poorer winters of my youth! (Granted it's still only early Feb! ). Yes, it's been colder than for many winters (last 10 years+), but in all truth that alone does not do it for me. Having experienced the winters in the period 78-87, and yes, BTL saw some great blizzards during some of those years, this winter, so far, is not even as good as '95 or '91 IMO. Since early 90s we in the West have had very few snow events, some years absolutely zilch, so i guess to some this winter has been v.good. But it's only 'good' in comparison to last 10 years+. It's ironic that if this winter was slotted into any five year period of the last 100 years it would be regarded as virtually snowless for the West! Even before the winters 78-87 we used to have at least 3 or 4 snow events in any winter (period 72-77 excepted). Bit long winded, i know, but so far - promising compared to last 10 winters (still a way to go yet), but v.ordinary compared to my 47 years on the planet and 'poor' compared to last 100 years.
  22. The main band expected from midnight. That's the largest 'blob' on your radar shot, just approaching the Brest peninsula
  23. Not doubting precipitation will arrive, dogs, but not convinced of decent snow to last past early morn. Wales and your area looks OK for continued snow, but BTL, somerset, devon, etc not so.
  24. Sky News forecast at 6.58pm - looks a little better. This is a nowcast event! Still not cold enough IMO for decent snow that will last. We really needed a couple of days of daytime temps at freezing, rather than a few degrees above.
