  1. What's that telling us about the movement of the cold air then, i wonder? Still heavy rain here in north BTL; no sign of any sleety mix yet. If this front has ground to a halt will we miss the white stuff, later?!
  2. I guess this means that if it's basically ground to a halt thru the south midlands at present it'll start moving S.E. before the real heavy stuff turns to snow. I would think that central southern england may do better out of this situ, like Wiltshire, Bucks, Bedfordshire, North Hants and into London.
  3. V.Heavy rain here, now, in north BTL. Latest BBC News 24 forecast a minute or so ago now predicting arrival of snow past 8.00pm for BTL area; slighty later than was forecast a couple of hours ago. As others have just reported on this thread, seems like it's not going to hang around too long either. Earlier forecasts seemed to indicate a good 6 hours of the white stuff!
  4. Just viewed the 1.30 weather on BBC. Looks like 8.00pm until about 2 in the morn is the favourite time for s.e.wales, cotswolds, BTL area. I'm guessing it could get v.busy on NW this eve!!
  5. Hi all! Back from my weekend break in Torquay. Haldon Forest just past Exeter was absolutely stunning late Fri morn. I've never seen snow like it accumulated on the trees. It's no exagerration to say that snow was almost a foot in depth on some branches! It's ironic that the drive down the M5 Fri Morn was easier than just now; the rain this morn was torrential, esp thru' Devon and south somerset. Tonite looks interesting, having just seen BBC News24 weather. Looks like cotswolds and east wales are favourites for some decent snow, but will it be heavy enough to settle after today's rain? Looks like BTL could be in the firing line and north somerset, sometime later this eve by looks of it.
  6. It's really pepped up again here in south glos! This snow is going nowhere fast!
  7. Heavy snow in North BTL, but just seems to be easing slightly. Actually the depth is not as deep as yday, but the complication is that today it intensifed just as rush hour is starting. Contrary to some reports in this thread this is nowhere near as bad as 87, 84, 81 and 78/79 in BTL anyway. then we had over a foot of snow at times and raging blizzards, biting easterlies, with temps sub-zero. Temps to me seems around zero or just slightly above - it's 'wet' snow today, as opposed to the powdery stuff. Plus back in those winters the snow often hung around for days, compacted and frozen due to the v.low temps.
  8. You are right there dogs!! Very heavy snow now here. Hope this finally begins to really stick and accumulate!
  9. That's central BTL though; 2 miles north, in Stoke Gifford it's turning into a right larry letdown!!
  10. Yeah; the real heavy stuff seems to be stalling over Devon and south somerset. wouldn't surprise me if this begins to head off east in next 2 hours! EDIT: It's struggling to accumulate here, even though been snowing for a couple of hours. No more than a slushy dusting!
  11. My guess that isn't really moving anywhere fast. Hence the heavy snow reported by WIB. Once again the meto, beeb, etc need to take a good long hard look at themselves IMO.
  12. Thought it was starting to freeze and stick here, but the lad's just come in and it's very slushy. I presume the really heavy stuff is kinda stuck over devon and south somerset?
  13. Ta. Yeah, i do know that way, but it does take you thru' some isolated roads, but by midday tom should be OK i think....I hope!!
  14. Chortle! Chortle! Thanks for the luverly devonian welcome! EDIT: just watching NEWS 24 weather and looks like that drive down the M5 will be interesting! Looks like WIB's area will get snow all night!
  15. It really is settling here now. Seems to be getting heavier.
  16. Do you think it'll be cleared by tomorrow midday? esp if a thaw sets in. Is there another route to torbay?
  17. Hope it's clear by about 11.30am tomorrow. What's the name of the hill one has to go up on way to Torquay?
  18. What makes you think that bristol? Quite heavy here now and at last, it's settling. Heavier band yet to hit i guess.
  19. Dogs...v.heavy snow now here. Settling nicely. It will be with you guys v.soon.
  20. Yes. Snowing heavier now in Stoke Gifford; at last, it's starting to settle. Guess temps have dropped a couple of degrees. Chelt/Glos posse - looking better now!
