  1. Great conditions for snow overnight, sub zero air temp, negative dew points, 850's around -7/-8c and a very light offshore wind.... Woke up it's overcast and the ground is wet!
  2. 1c here, looked out the window and it's cloudy and the ground is wet! Radar shows showers passing through about an hour ago. It was -1.3c when I went to bed and obviously negative dew points and 850's around -7c when the showers came through, should have been snow but assuming it just rained with the wet ground!! How..!!??
  3. Barely a cloud in the sky here! Lovely. It was -1.2c at dawn but up to 5.2c now and feeling pleasant in the sun and out of the breeze, still some bits of frost on the grass where the sun hasn't touched yet but disappearing slowly.
  4. Would like to see deeper cold at this time of year. We seem to be saying this quite often but it's a shame it didn't happen earlier in the winter! Even with the -6/-7c 850's the temps can climb sharply as we get towards midday at this stage in the winter thanks to the stronger sun. NetWx-MR model, 850's & predicted temps for Saturday which look a bit on the high side though but similar to the Met Office map for the same time.
  5. Indeed and Ian has just more or less said the same above, frustrating! On the plus side IMBY that sort of cloudy easterly set up I tend to be sheltered by the high ground here (not all the time) so more chance of keeping the sunshine by day and cold frosty nights. Shame the 850's weren't nearly 10 degrees colder like 3 years ago!
  6. Looks like mostly rain atm on the latest GFS charts anyway but still 5 days away so time for changes. Less cold air out west with higher dew points associated with the front.
  7. Cold air digging south midweek bringing wintry showers to the favoured places in a northerly flow. Cold with widespread frosts for many.
  8. Not seeing any charts suggesting a proper convective easterly. Ideally you want to see 850's around -10c or lower and deeper cold 500mb temps for the instability. Easterly wind off relatively warm North Sea SST's with 850's of only -6/-7c keeping eastern areas above freezing. Anyway we're talking 5/6 days away so plenty of time for upgrades. The coldest air moving south midweek with -10c 850's into the north.
  9. Nice to have a bright morning with no rain! Currently 4.2c so chilly in the breeze. Depending on cloud amounts there should be some decent weather on offer this week with frosty nights and sunshine by day, feeling quite pleasant with light winds in any sunshine. A month or so ago we'd probably be looking at some widespread very low daytime maximums.
  10. Another day but the same overcast wet theme! Not as heavy as yesterday but annoying light rain/drizzle. Next week looking good for some drier weather and quite chilly.
  11. Very wet morning! Dried up over the last hour so can get out with the dogs. Chilly day with a max around 7c so far. Cold weather next week?!
  12. Pouring down, 4.3c DP 3.2c. The temp is falling though from 5.6c an hour ago.
  13. Turning quite wet now with a very strong S'ly wind gusting 40-50mph, feels very unpleasant with a temp of 4.5c.
  14. Completely blank NetWx-SR & Euro4 snow accumulation charts for 6am Thursday. GFS a bit more generous.
  15. GFS 06z showing rain at first for many but turning more to snow mainly over the higher ground but possibly to lower levels across Scotland, Wales, N England & the Midlands as the colder air undercuts the front from the west. Front fizzling out as it gets towards the south east.
  16. 4.3c windy & overcast, feels pretty raw. PPN moving across the Irish sea so first spots of rain likely soon before the main band of rain turns up later.
  17. Southerly winds picking up and it's currently 3.2c, so looking forward to the rain later!
  18. Minus 1 now under starry skies, very calm but back to normal tomorrow afternoon with heavy rain and winds near gale force! Enjoyed the last few days it's been the driest and brightest period I've had all winter.
  19. Sharp drop in temp since 5pm. 0.9c now, clear and calm, gonna be a chilly dog walk after tea.
  20. Back to the wind and rain tomorrow afternoon across the north & west with gales. Very wet also.
  21. Temps lifted quite quickly in stronger Feb sunshine this aft, up to 5.4c although it'll start to fall over the next hour or so as the sun heads towards the horizon.
  22. Cold day, it was around 1pm when the frost melted off the car in the shade, currently 2.7c with near wall to wall sunshine.
  23. Temp fallen a little over the last hour to -1.1c.
  24. Thought it'd be colder this morning under clear skies & colder air has moved in from the north, must be the breeze. Currently -0.2c, frosty and some ice after last nights rain may need a chisel to open the car door!
