Just had another intense snow shower. Only lasted about 10-15mins but settled fairly well actually!... suns out again and snow is thawing but that was a lot of fun while it lasted!

15.00 the sixth snow shower in couple of hours starts, Nr. Burham SE Essex. This snow shower is heavy, some graupel mixed in, and looks like it means business. Visibility very poor and sticking even to concrete surfaces. Temperature on first flake 3.5c. Temperature 12 minutes later 0.5c! Great snowflakes now, want it to last, suddenly what landscape we can see looks wintry!

5ºC? Bloody hell, are you certain?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Yup. Checked this on two different local weather stations, both in the immediate vicinity, not Teesside airport (sorry, Durham Tees Valley or whatever it's called now). In fact, one reading was a bit over 5C.

Another moderate hail and snow (sleet) shower.

Because, I assume, the compaction of the hail mixed in, its almost an immediate settlement on the ground.

After a few minutes, there is already a covering in many places (including some parts of the road :D )

Taken at 1.45 PM, main runway, Coventry airport. Went very dark then this stuff came down. The lights are the start/end of the runway it's self. Not a nice view for the pilot of the incoming 737 200. Can you spot the plane?

Fair enough, although if they are reading over 5ºC I doubt the data.....I couldn't believe how mild it had got when I reached 3.2ºC. Teeside Airport always reads higher than me because of its location, and on top of that the temperatures are rounded up to the nearest degree, 4.5ºC = 5ºC. I note the highest temperature recorded there today was 4ºC (effectively between 3.5ºC and 4.4ºC), so that looks about right, compared to my 3.2º.

I know on Weather Underground that Darlington and Billingham always read MUCH higher than me, every single day, however in my opinion thats because of possibly the all important sensor location.
