yey - lots of snow today - some very heavy indeed with almost blizzard-like conditions. To be honest, it has been snowing more than it has not! Looking forward to be dumping tonight.

Snowing again near manchester, and sticking straight away, especially as there is still snow on the ground from yesterday and this morning.

Intermittent snow flurries are continuing in Lancaster, but amounting to very little, and presently not settling.

Temperatures are low enough for snow to settle only if it gets heavy.

It should get colder overnight, and it will be interesting to see what kind of dusting we get tomorrow morning. Today's covering was best summed up by "Loose dry powdery snow covering less than half the ground", which is quite normal for Lancaster from an easterly.

Interestingly, while it may still be snowing in Durham etc, it has definitely warmed up in the South Shields/Sunderland area- apparently the snow has all gone and showers are mostly of a wintry mix, consistent with strengthening onshore winds.
