Time for the guesses to come in for June...

So warm/hot, average or cool? Take your bets ladies & gents...

61-90 & 71-00 average both stand at 14.1C.

I'm gonna go for a CET of 14.5C. A few warm spells, a few cool spells but overall on the warmer side.

Blimey you got in there before summer blizzard at starting a new CET thread!

A fairly dry but cool start to June with long dry spells in the South thanks to high pressure though could be a few showers around especially in the NE. Slowly turning warmer in the South but also more unsettled into second half of the month with Atlantic lows making a return but drawing in warm humid air.

So I'll go with slightly above with 14.7C.

Yep, had to get in there at least once! ;)

I'll add to mine - rainfall will be below average but not by a lot thanks to lows making inroads later in the month (after the dry start).

Slightly above at 14.4C. There will be a warm summer period within the 1st ten days but then LPs will dominate with unsettled and cool conditions for middle 10-14 days. Timing is all important but 'hot' spell end of the month to MAINTAIN above average conditions...but only just.

14.0C - mostly cool and unsettled later but some prolonged warm, settled periods in first and second week. Think we're overdue a cool(average) June..

The 61-90 and 71-00 average for June is 14.1C, here are the values from the past 10 years:

1996: 14.4C

1997: 14.1C

1998: 14.2C

1999: 13.9C

2000: 15.1C

2001: 14.3C

2002: 14.4C

2003: 16.0C

2004: 15.3C

2005: 15.7C

Cool but quite dry I'll go for- Monday's chart on MO site shows a high establishing in mid-Atlantic with northerlies/northwesterlies, highs in that position at this time of year can be a b****r to shift (see May/June 1995), ENS and GFS have sub-0C 850 air over the whole country by Wednesday.

June colder than May? (has it ever happened?)

I'll go for a cool 12.0C, but then a dramatic change to a hot July- as per 1983 which was the last May anything like this, and the other two "cyclonic" Mays of 1981 and 1925 seem to have had cool, northerly Junes too although 1925 was sunny in the south.

There have been only 2 Junes with a CET of 18.0 and greater: 1666 18.0, 1846 18.2

There has only been one instance of two consecutive Junes with a CET >16; 1785 and 1786 with 16.1

The shortest interval between Junes with a CET >17 is 4 years; 1822 17.1, 1826 17.3

The longest interval between Junes with a CET <13 is 65 years from 1749 to 1814

The shorterst interval between Junes with a CET <12 is 7 years from 1909 to 1916

The last time June had..

...had a CET greater than 16C

2003 16.1

...had a CET greater or equal to 17C

1976 17.0

...had a CET greater than 18C

1846 18.2

...had a CET less than 14C

1999 13.9

...had a CET less than 13C

1991 12.1

...had a CET less than 12C

1972 11.8

...was warmest month of the year

1970 16.4

...was warmer than August

1986 Jun 14.8 Aug 13.7

...was colder than May

1833 May 15.1 Jun 14.6

June colder than May? (has it ever happened?)

Twice

1833 May 15.1 June 14.6

1749 May 12.3 June 11.9

I'll go for a CET of 15.3c mainly because I think we will have one pretty hot spell but the rest of the month will be fairly nondescript.

14c - just below average. Rainfall 120% (but local variations due to convective activity around the middle of the month).

15.4C for me.

With the climate having been on a warming trend I can't imagine a summer month giving us a below average CET.

15.4C for me.

With the climate having been on a warming trend I can't imagine a summer month giving us a below average CET.

It happened as recently as July 2004. (15.8C, as opposed to the 1971-2000 average of 16.5, and 1961-90 average of 16.1)

My prediction, btw, won't be until the 1st June.
