I'm heading to Ohio in a couple of weeks - what's the "prospects of play" up that way, usually this time of year. Chances of seeing something severe?

I don't think you will get much idea this far in advance DtM

Now today

I mean generally - i.e. mid-late May into June. Looking at the long long range forecast, I see "strong T-storms" have been forecasted for the summer.

I'm not up to speed om the climatology of Ohio I'm afraid but for what it's worth the GFS for the 28th has low pressure dominating the whole area with plenty of rain about. Not conducive to major storms I would say..regarding tornados which is where we came in.

Record heat and record ice: Astonishing scenes from Lake Superior

Near the southern shores of Lake Superior, fragments of ice  still speckled the water’s surface this Memorial Day weekend.  These vestiges from the polar vortex winter presented an amazing contrast with the actual air temperature – which surged into the 80s in some areas just a few miles inland.  Heat records were set in a region with record-setting ice extent – quite the incongruity.
