The Lake That Supplies Vegas With Most of Its Water Is Now at Record-Low Levels

 

In March, I wrote about the appalling state of water conservation in the city that’s synonymous with largesse: Las Vegas.

 

Thanks in part to the epic ongoing drought, the city’s main water supply just hit a frightening new milestone low this week. According to Bureau of Reclamation data as of June 2, there’s never been so little water behind Hoover Dam since its construction in the 1930s. That’s a problem, because Vegas gets 90 percent of its water from Lake Mead.

Record Rainfall in Sioux Falls, South Dakota

 

As Jeff Masters blogged today (June 17th) deadly tornadoes struck Nebraska on Monday June 16th. Tornadoes also were reported in Iowa and Wisconsin. Accompanying the twisters were some phenomenal rainfalls in nearby South Dakota. One site, Canton, reported 8.43†of rainfall in the 24 hours ending at 6 a.m. local time June 17th.
