Another snowfall warning - predominantly a foothills affair.

Could contain: Plot, Chart, Map, Atlas, Diagram, Outdoors, Person, Nature

This is maybe the 5th warning in the past few weeks. Each time the snow totals have been getting a bit closer to the forecast.

10-20 cm’s forecast this time... ❄️

Your are doing really well so far this season. As predicted by the various forecasts it looks like you are in for a winter of lots of snow! Lucky you!

Currently minus 23 at 10am. Was a cold night with temps around minus 28 but wind chill in the minus 30’s.

It looks like it’s on the turn from here on in with temps forecast to be close to freezing during the day and night time temps a ‘balmy’ minus 9 by the weekend lol

Thursday to Sunday snowfall potential for the Buffalo NY region may be as great as 4 to 7 feet (let's say 1-2 meters) as a perfect cold setup combined with 13 C Lake Erie water temperatures creates extreme potential.

As noted above, here's the latest warning for Buffalo:

...LAKE EFFECT SNOW WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 7 PM THIS EVENING TO 1 PM EST SUNDAY...

* WHAT...Heavy lake effect snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 4 feet in the most persistent lake snows. The heaviest snow is expected late this evening through Friday night when snowfall rates could exceed 3 inches per hour. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph with produce patchy blowing snow.

* WHERE...Northern Erie and Genesee counties.

* WHEN...From 7 PM this evening to 1 PM EST Sunday.

* IMPACTS...Travel will be very difficult to impossible. The hazardous conditions will impact the Friday morning and evening commute. The heavy snow could also bring down some tree limbs and cause scattered power outages.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Heavy snow will fall in relatively narrow bands. If traveling, be prepared for rapidly changing road conditions and visibilities.

Just posted this in the specific thread for this event but pertinent for this thread also.

The lake effect snow has been marching up Lake Eerie the last few hours and will be hitting mainly south of buffalo in the next few hours.

https://www.accuweather.com/en/us/buffalo/14202/weather-radar/349726

It won’t be on the scale of ‘Snowvember’ - a huge snow event exactly 8 years ago today. Then a band hit just south of buffalo for round 1(about 3 ft) , moved north and then moved back south for round 2. (For about another 3ft) - some areas reached 7 ft of snow!

This time it’ll only be mainly round 1 and a weakened round 2 - still enough for 3-4 ft. But it will move north and then South again but with little impact towards the end.

I’d say 3.5ft-4.5ft for prime areas just south of Buffalo maybe between Hamburg and Angola if I had to guess. (Would anyone like to stick their neck out and say 5ft will be reached?)

Its due to start in southlands in next few hours through Friday. Then Buffalo downtown Friday through Saturday. Moving north and then moving south with less snow by Sunday morning.

Sunday for the Bills game would likely have had little snow, but the logistics of hosting the game after having had up to 4 ft of snow means it’s been moved to Detroit.

Also there’s a good chance of thundersnow and rates of up to 5 inches per hour in the heaviest falls. Quite an experience.

The snow watch starts now. If you can download Buffalo WGRZ news/weather they have full 24/7 coverage of the Storm.

As you say "IF", VPN seems to be the best way to be able to get it.

Upstate New York saw historic snowfall due to the annual Lake Effect snowfalls. Buffalo, by Lake Erie and Jefferson County, by Lake Ontario were covered in mid-November, but these areas can cope.

80" in the end for Orchard Park, so 6' 8" deep. Incredible Lake Effect snow event

Mid minus 20’s is the limit to my cold happiness. Which is the forecast for Canmore region. Edmonton looking like minus 30’s though. That’s not fun
