Well this mornings covering here in the North East , didnt last long , melted by about dinner time . However looking at the radar and the news reports , it supposed to be heading this way , However , ive just had a quick look at the 5 min radar , and it looks like its heading NW , The front is just to the South of me , personally i have got a funny feeling that this is going to be a none event again .[ but still we had a little bit f snow so i cannot complain really]

nigel

nearlly forgot , i had a delivery at one of the council yards here in the North East , and there must have been about a dozen gritters , full to the brim , on standby ,

Doesn't look like we'll see any more tonight, maybe a few lightish showers.

I would love this to be right but I very much doubt it:

Teletext page 152, forecast for tonight, NE England.

Started snowing again here. Biggest flakes we've had so far today. Still got a good covering from this morning's snow as well.

yay quite a few inches of snow :drinks: , but the stupid &$$%$ at school said it was 'too dangerous' to play in the snow. how much i wanted to throw a very large, hard ice ball at them and scream 'swearing is not big or clever YOU'

all in all, a pretty crap day :yahoo:

By the way, the most incredible thing, from my point of view in oxfordshire (southern midlands if that means more to others), is that the saturday event could affect us in this area again. It almost looks like a carbon copy of the event today now:

Temp charts because of lying snow:

....

It's another close call either way, but I suspect the action will be further north this time: the temps in the south now look a little too high, and even in the north it might require higher ground - all of that said, it will go down to the wire again.

There is something reminiscent of 1979 in the way that the cold air to the north is resisting the mild incursion. Almost exactly 28 years to the day since one of that winter's "big 4". we had 15" of fresh snow that day, on top of 7" that had persisted since (with top ups) since the end of December. I remember walking up the field by my parents' house, at 830 (it took 7 hours to travel 6 miles home from school) literally up to the bottom of my thighs in snow - certainly the deepest level snow I have ever encountered in this country.

Notice a band of PPN in South Wales - is this rain/snow? Heading towards me in Chelt :drinks:

Snow all but melted here in the Town :yahoo:

Sun is out here in this part of south wales, but luckily the snow has held up fairly well with a fair cover still albeit very slushy.

Very Pleased with today as a whole

Had around 4 inches (10cms) of snow on the whole here in NW Essex (6 inches across the open fields, 15cms), no 6th form college as it was closed for the day and snow reall through until around 2PM

Some more precip now forming across the midlands and heading westwards, could give another covering a little later on this evening as the precip continues to pivot around the midlands

With a big dip expected tonight, the icey conditions underfoot tomorrow will be trecherous

Kris

We don't Handel snow very well here because i does not happen that often, schools are closed and people just do not drive very well in the snow because of the lack of practice. Just 4 inches blocks roads on the island i live on :yahoo:

I wish i was in Lithuania right now

B/W, I missed out on the snow, it all happened further north than the Isle of Wight :drinks:

Russ

Good luck to everyone still getting snow-

Anyway just a warning really-

As the snow 'eventually' clears this eve & possibly into the night I guess people will be tempted to get out & have a few snowball fights etc-

As we approach dusk & late evening- the temps especially over the midlands are going to drop like a stone - especially in areas with clearer skies-

Wrap up warm people- No cases of hyperthermia please.......
