I was going on the May averages (not the CET series) so the MA only apply over the years to May's CET. Here's the values (in ascending order) to May 2006:

12.1

10.6

11.7

10

11.2

11.2

11.6

10.3

9.9

10.9

11.1

10.1

11.9

13

12.6

10.8

13.6

11.4

10.7

11.6

9.1

11.5

13.1

12.9

12.1

12.6

11.8

12.1

12.1

11.4

12.3

Which gives me a value of 12.505 (I originally, although I did not intend, to, omitted last years figure) so there was an error in my calculations.

You've lost me. What are those May averages?

EDIT: Its actually academic because Richard made a CET prediction and you can see from those rolling CET averages, I can't see how you can call 12.7 cool, even by today's standards.

They're the Hadley CET.

I'm reworking it, and yes, it does appear that I've made a boo-boo out of this. Report back later.

Still too early to decide. The way recent months have gone, it feels like we'll have a May CET of 44.2C, but as yet that is an unlikely figure.

Put me down for a 12.3C, the base line does seem to have moved up a notch.

14.7. Exceptionally warm and sunny again, increasing risk of thunderstorms later in the month, when temps may reach 90f.

Based on the experimental CFS CET precictor we ran in December following on from its success in April, I'm going for an extremely warm 15.50c!

Wow, that would be very good for June, let alone May.

Yep I'm going blindly with the computer prediction from 5 months previous there, which could be foolish I think!

Splutter splutter [Mr Data chokes on his coffee]. 4.2c above normal? Have we ever had a month in the CET history that has been so anomolously warm? Btw what did the CFS predict please for April?

I think I recall Paul saying that CFS had forecast a Craig Evans-like figure for this month....so in actual fact it wasn't too far out! What was it again, Paul, about 13C?

Rather impressive as it will be within 0.5 of the likely outcome!

Should you not use the estimate for May from January?

I'm going to go for a more 'normal' CET for May of 11.9c, although I reserve the right to amend before Tuesday!
