Snowing heavy in Northampton and has been for 45 mins now, settled on roofs, cars, grass. I wasn't expecting this. It looks more like Febuary out there, not October.

Hi folks

Been snowing for about 2 hours here at Keele. Started as rain at about 1145 then sleet about 1215 sticking to cars and giving a light slush, `proper snow' ' at about 1245. Went a bit lighter/sleety for a while then back to snow. light covering on pavements maybe 1cm on grass. Still coming lightly I fear it will stop soon.

Temperature drop by about 3c to 0.5C in a couple of hours

Earliest snow I can remember here beating October 31st 2000 (I think)

Light snow on and off this morning and around lunchtime.

Not heavy enough to lay on surfaces.

Temperature around 2c most of the day.

Sky clearing from the north just before dark. Looks like a sharp frost for late October is on the cards.

It did stop as soon as I sent this. Now partly melted. One of my colleagues came in from Alsager Cheshire on lower ground and not a flake of snow there apparently..

Floor was wet throughout the day when it started sleeting around lunch time then at around 3 it began to snow for an hour so nothing settled now its very cold with a slight breeze which is making it feel even cold and if the clouds clear soon i expect its going to be veryyyy! icy in the morning :D

Sleet turned to snow here around 3.15pm. Moderate snowfall of some quite large flakes for around an hour led to a slight covering of around 1cm on grass and parked cars.

It won't surprise anyone to hear that it's only been rain so far here, although the temperature has dropped almost 2C in 45 mins to 4C. There is a very pronounced blob of bright echoes over the Chilterns currently (upt to 250m asl), so it would be interesting to hear any reports from people there to see if the snow has made it that far south.

:D Time to wake up from summer hibernation... it's been snowing here near Luton for over an hour - light dusting on the cars :D

Once the rain turned heavy, I ventured outside my place of work hoping to discover any hint of wintryness. It was around 3 p.m. the rain started to turn sleety and, eventually, rather snowy.

The short spell of snow resulted in some slush on the roads and a minimal covering on the parked cars and grassy areas. I made the mistake of attempting to clear my car window by winding it down only for the snow to collapse on my lap :D

Overall, wonderfully impressed with the, seldom seen, October snowfall :D

Hi,

Snowing here for the last 20 mins - big flakes as well.

Apears to be settling on the rooftops - could be very icy tomorrow morning.

Big snow flakes blowing in the wind in Swindon temp ~2C

Quite momentous as having lived in S England for last 40 years have never seen snow in the 10th month of the year before.

The ppn seems to have come to a halt to the north of London, seems like there should be something settling in Bucks and Herts at least.

PADAĆ ŚNIEG!

This was a thundersnow event here!

40 minutes, large wet flakes. Now the small tiny ones, looks like it's trying to stop.

im just on the edge and getting some snow, should reach you in the next hour or so.

Thanks for that BB.

Extremely jealous of the thundersnow, but am hoping for a few flakes at least. All signs point to the ppn sinking slowly south, so I hope for you that it gives a covering, far less likely here...Too close to the centre!!

(EDIT: By the way, the NW radar seems to have stopped at 19:20, is it just me?)
