Now then Now then, If HP does infact make it to GL and gets established ..prolonging and intensifying the up comming cold spell then 0c could well be on the high side lol.

I'm going to go for a month of four quarters - i.e. roughly a week of each of the following:

1) Cold

2) Seriously cold

3) Fairly mild

4) Cold

Based on how December is working out CET-wise, I'd therefore go for 3.1C. I think it will be notably colder than recent Januarys, but we probably won't achieve the elusive sub-3C.

not being picky..but your four weeks would bring a cet of alot less than 3.1c..sounds similar to jan 1985..had a similar four week spread and came it at 0.8c

hmmmm what to do what to do?

Logic says that if we get lucky and blocked and start with lets say a freezing 9 days coming in at 0 by the 9th (why not I say - random spurious logic is fun) and then the remainder were average, we would end up at a rounded down 2.9

I like 2.9 - it would also get us well below the 71-00 average in running.

My heart tells me to go for 1.9 and a significantly cold winter month......

But I have been following my heart all year and next year its time to follow random logic

2.9 it is please

I could see Craig Evans coming in with 5.5 at this rate.

Going to hold fire until the 31st here, worked well enough last year.

Hi Roger B) I foresee a very warm second half of January to rival May giving a final CET of 8C.

As I write I am in Canada where sub-zero is the norm and in the last week we have had a LOT of snow, but this will not influence my belief that January will be below average CET back home.

I am going for a modestly cold 3.0 degs.

A very merry Xmas and New Year to you all.

5.3C for me please:

Another sorry excuse for a January (though maybe not record-threateningly mild like 07 and 08), quite possibly I see it following the 2002 pattern- a cold first few days after an anticyclonic December, then relentless SW'lies without even a 24-hr toppler in sight for the rest of the month.

6 days left to save 2008 from being the first year free of lying snow since 1992............
