Yup we're doing nicely here....the snows light at the moment but has been ongoing for a while now

How much have you got?

I've not bothered measuring my 'cover' given that its a mere frost compared to places in the south-east.

It's fine stuff here now, a bit sleety I think.

I was enjoying this snow until tonight, i've smashed my car off a curb and cracked the alloy and bust the tyre :)

Not going to work tomorrow which is one positive.

Yep I've seen all of the above and it's true although atm I just can't see it I'm afraid. That's not to say it won't happen, but we need an hour of heavy snow at least here to make it up to the magic 20cm. Over 10cm now but the flakes are tiny, and it's taking a long time for it to pile up, even if it's "heavy". At least there's no sign of it being marginal with everything still below zero.

I've changed my mind now, I don't think anything notable is going to happen at all here. Let's hope something develops for the end of the week.

Surely the forecast is talking about overnight. Most of what we could expect would not be on the radar yet. My worry is that temps become marginal (hence why they are saying above 200m).

I think some of us are getting a little greedy!? :)

Things really intensifying over Lincs now, looking better for this area as it's on a direct route. Very slow progress though.

Just been out to check lol.......about 4-5 ins, however rather worryingly despite continued light/moderate snowfall there was melting near the house.....I do hope it's just my loft insulation's not up to standard rather than temp rises

You are the same as me, very fine flakes not really doing much. Radar is better with some quite heavy precip now over Lincs, heading our way. Too early to throw the towel in, things are beefing up a bit down S. We just need to hang on to those temps now, altitude is jey here - I'm on the edge I would say of what will turn to rain and what won't. Coastal areas and below 100m look poor later on however.

EDIT: things look like they are pepping up over the Wash, this is the pattern.

I woke up to 2 inches maybe 3 this morning. Pics in the pic thread shortly.

Currently it's fine stuff that if it continued for a week, we might get an inch <_<

Please, tell me there's more coming??

NO WAY!

I want all the snow I can get. I'm not settling for this pathetic 4cm cover.

Exactly, we had this much in November/December (can't remember) and we've had significantly more at times in the last 5 years, this is not close to being a notable event for the NE.

Yes but I'm expecting that it will be sleet/rain so no further accumulations for me.

If I'm proved wrong then fantastic, but I can't see it atm.

It's been a sleet rain mix here since about 3:30pm so I doubt we'll get anything accumulating on the coast. Perhaps up on the moors, it'll stay as snow but I think we've seen the worst.

Important- very intresting Look North atm, Paul Hudson talking about a "classic scenario, with cold air flooding up the snow band", the worst is yet to come with the percip "intensifying over next few hours", and expect widely another 10cm of snow over "York, Leeds, Sheffield etc" he also said "expect, above 200m a foot of fresh snow falling later in the eavining". He did say though that it would turn to rain on the coast, but that was expected.

Also i would imagine the snow line been east of York, so pretty widespread.

North East England: Durham Northumberland Very Heavy Snowfall, Severe Blizzards & Severe Drifting Snow 1800 Mon 2 0500 Tue 3 There is a high risk of an extreme weather event affecting areas above 200 metres and in particular the Pennines.

Heavy snowfalls will lead to further accumulations of locally 20 to 30 cms in these areas with strong northeasterly winds leading to blizzard conditions and drifting. On lower ground a further 5-10cm is likely with the snow gradually turning to rain overnight.

Disruption to power supplies and transport is expected with a danger to life.

Paul Mooney on BBC Look North (yet to give the full forecast) has just

said that more snowfall tonight so for those inland and especially on higher

ground can expect more. Most of the lying snow that fell earlier today has all but gone

a few patches remain.. Ppn at the moment looks to be mostly of hail with a mix of snowflakes

and rain, wont take much of a temp drop to revert back to snow...

Me neither. Most of our paltry 1cm cover has gone now and it has been a mixture of sleet and rain since around 4pm. Like you say, fantastic if something happens later on tonight into Tuesday, but if it does I will refer to it as God's miracle!

Take care
