Yes, those places can be snow traps! I've heard many times that Hindhead/Devils Punchbowl has thick snow but with nothing nearby. I remember driving along the Hog's back once and there was thick snow on the ground, but by the time I got to Guildford, there was only just enough to cover the ground.

I went to an xmas do at the Punchbowl Hotel there once with some people from work when I lived in the area and at the bar the staff dug out some photos from 62/63 winter showing the deep drifts of snow up there. Put it this way, as the hotel exists now (unless it has been altered since??) you would have had to find reception by a first floor window!

Back O/T it is still raining - till Friday!

You'll get your snow mate just make the most of it! At least this isn't the only snow event of the winter! Plenty more opportunities in the next 5 days

Yeah i think we are both in good areas if the latest charts are nailed on.

The temperature is hovering at -1C here in SW Suffolk. This can only bode well for the heavy prolonged snowfall in a few hours.

Quite an event for Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire!! :wallbash:

Seasons

Rain now mainly, still some ice mixed in.

BBC 24 still going for snow in the SE on Friday, just said looking quite miserable, none of this wet talk this time.

think im gonna have to turn in, was hoping to see a few flakes, just in case its rain when i wake up, which is probably going to be the case, listening to all the posts coming out of London and Kent. However im 60 miles north so i'll have one more stare at my trusty l/post then go to the land of nod with fingers crossed.

just 50 miles or so to the west its snowing hard. if people in hampshire/buckingamshire are getting heavy snow with an inch lying, then this has been exceptionally marginal

After taking a break im very surprised at the latest radar. The last forecast I had seen is the 10.30 BBC1 when the main risk area was SW Midlands as suggested by the GFS. Well to me eyes the main band of precip is moving directly N.

Curent temps -1C, DP -3C.

Looking good in a few hrs time.

Just driven up the A1 from London to St Ives in Cambs, registered -1 to 0.5C on the car thermomiter along the journey - it was 0.5C when i got home. Yet again i can't see a mayor snow event for us tonight, it's just to damm warm! - i hope St Neots fares better.

Is it heading for Norwich? If so, will it fall as snow?

Had a light flurry of snow at 11 tonight , nothing happening at the moment. The Chilterns anti-snow magnet on full power again ! :D

Moderate rain here in Ewell. I'm at 50m ASL but I'd be interested to hear from anyone up on the downs as to whats falling up there.

As I say, just rain here, and it's only 0.6 deg. However when I look under the light, and this is difficult to describe, but by the way it is falling, definately seems like its melted snow.

It's a wierd sensation, although understandable given the synoptics, that its raining even though we have 14cm level snow still in the garden. I just went out and measured it while I was looking up at the light !

Well it's a kind of strange mix really!!! Soft hail which is noisy on the window with the odd 50p flake mixed in.

same here

Thats disappointing, but it can quite easy produce heavy snow at that temp.

Thats my lot, night all, and GOOD LUCK..!!
