Ive nearly given up hope now. the ppn is hardly moving and it's the wrong time of the day

aswell.

Dont give up! Time of the day means nothing with this scenario, even if it was night time, the cloud cover would keep temps up. Dont forget we have had hard frosts every night, ground temps will support snow. :cc_confused:

If it dont snow theres always..

Its funny though, shows rain but its dry not even a drop! Something aint right! theres no warming affect and sleet/snow even falls at 5c with dews below freezing and its 3c. I think it may be wrong

that looks like its from that narrow band of precipitation showing on the radar from west of the humber down towards birmingham.

if my memory is correct swinton is near mexborough and at a fair height above sea level too.

Hiya, Yeah, just up the road from mexborough, Im not sure how far asl we are here, its stopped now, But I think your right, it was coming from that long spike, which seemed to be rather strange,

well the obvious conclusion is the radar phenomenon known as "anaprop", but that alone doesn't really answer anything.

you are very right about sleet and snow falling at temperatures well above freezing, sometimes even as high as 8c - april showers for example - but then the temperature plummets when the precipitation falls, and anything that settles quickly melts again in the sun!

We've had a spell of moderate snow in York, settling on all surfaces. Currently eased off, but that agrees with the radar which shows a small gap, then heavier again.

Thanks for the info, did you monitor your temps before and during the precip? what was your temp before it started snowing, and what was your temp during the heaviest of the precip. thanks

meto rainfall radar image for 1130 indicates that the precipitation is dying as it closes in on the humber area :)

great link tomb raider legend - thanks :)

the only other thing that comes to my mind with this situation is the influence of the ridge of high pressure, but i have a feeling that the words "clutching" and "straws" may have relevance.

Sorry, can't answer that as I'm in the office!

Have been keeping an eye on the temp up the road from home at http://www.eastyorkshire.co.uk/eddsfield/

It rose to 0.4 there earlier, but is now back at 0.0. Says it's dry but looks like snow on the webcam.

Moderate snow again in york and quite white now.
