Where on earth did this come from! I must say this event completely passed me by when looking at the models. It looks like quite a large area of precipitation aswell, so there could be some good totals from this.

Currently 0.9C with moderate/heavy snow and a good dusting on grass and cars. Its a little bit wet to lay on the roads yet, but as it gets heavier this should improve.

On night shift again so should be able to watch this :D

hello reef

whilst the models are very useful they cannot foretell everything, especially as there are more than one to study.

it is not a bad idea to have an understanding of basic meteorology anyway, and get to know your own area and its good and bad points weather-wise.

thats how i started, and it all makes for good practice :)

Still snowing quite heavy here, the last blades of grass are disapperaring which is always a good sign in my book. Judging by peoples comments this was fairly unexpected and there appears to be more to come :D

Totally unexpected, the models did suggest this could happen a good 4-5 days ago but as usual it dissapeared from the runs and forecasts, Paul Hudson will probably get another beating from Levy.

Indeed, thats what I meant by how this event seems to have passed by unnoticed. It wasnt forecast anywhere. The Metoffice last night had today as cool and cloudy after an early frost. The showers last night which gave a covering at work to the east of the city werent shown either.

The temperature has fallen to 0.6C now and its exceptionally heavy. We now have a good covering on the grass and its beginning to lay on the roads and pavements.

What was the forecast from Hudson?

'Light snow in the evening, nothing that will cause any problems mainly over the east yorkshire and lincolnshire wolds'. Mind you he is based over in the leeds studio. His yorkshire forecasts are much more detailed a lot better than the ones we get.

could do with that area off the coast of easy yorks moving this way - looks quite heavy

yes it does look a bit intense.

trouble is the speed of movement southwards gives another couple of hours worth of snow in my area, maybe a little longer at a push.
