Looks like a heavy shower is approaching. Quite threatening looking skies.

That's some storm and heavy rain at the moment over the Kyle of Tongue. Wouldn't like to be up there camping

It looks form here as though there's something up-north past Tain somewhere, too...

The warning for heavy rain for the east of Wales/NW Midlands is a joke surely if you look at the current/ recent radar! Nice day here in West Wales, dry, warm with sunny spells.

Theres some reds in there, heavy showery band of rain with gusty winds here, clouds were nothing (like last week) mainly mid-level with some lower cumulus and it did go quite dark to the south.

There were a few TCU to the west, sunny now.

I think thunderstorms inland north and east of the Great Glen are quite unusual Mr T - is that right?

Looks from RainToday that the nearest to your north is the southernm end of the Kyle of Tongue storm - approx. midway down Loch Shin.

EDIT: Which has now drifted further north.

Looks like I'm about to get soaked, huge black cloud approaching.

I think I'd better go and close the patio doors.

What I can see from here is: Cu virtually on the horizon with congestus-> Cb just this side of it...And it's all moving away north-westwards... :)

Does that make sense?

PS: should I have said - CB???

There appear to be some pretty heavy downpours over Devon and Cornwall making inroads northeastwards into Wales at present. I can see congestus towers all to the west but beautiful cirrus displays here.

I think I was in a little gap in the line of showers, just a spot of light rain, didn't even register on the weather station.

I don't know whether this has been posted today or not. UKASF have a issued a thunderstorm forecast for some parts of the UK.

This is valid until just before midnight tonight.

Regions Affected

Northern Ireland, Ireland, Scotland (excluding Shetland), Northern England, North Midlands, N + C Wales ( all of the UK, excluding SE England, are included in the WATCH )

Synopsis

An area of LOW pressure centred to the west of Ireland in the Atlantic will be the main dominating feature of the weather across the United Kingdom on Saturday. Numerous showers and thunderstorms are expected to rapidly develop during the morning across the western side of both islands (Ireland and Britain) becoming more widespread and moving eastwards into the afternoon. A broad area has been highlighted on the map due to the widespread nature of the showers, although not all of the showers will be electrified. Moderate winds will ensure the showers/storms should move through fairly quickly, so the flash flooding risk is somewhat limited to areas most prone to frequent showers. Ireland/Northern Ireland appears to have the most favourable environment, but since these showers will move eastwards, courtesy of embedded troughs and weather fronts within the westerly flow, local thunderstorms cannot be ruled out across Wales/Northern England/Scotland. Showers/storms will rapidly decrease in coverage and intensity during the evening, especially inland, whilst persisting across many western coasts into the night hours, especially over western Scotland and Ireland where they may remain electrified into the night.

I agree, AJ.

First, and in chronolical order...

The rest are almost live. (Well -30 minutes or so ...)

Convection in latter pics and what should go bang later for some. :o

Phil.

Jane Louise...

If I'm right, you can exit your own thread looking at this load of convection from South Wales/Midlands. Looks for once like you lot are in the firing line. :o

Phil.

Hi FrostyJoe.

Looks like you guys could be seeing plenty more yet. Looks like the SW flow has potential to push more and overland convective storms further north before the day is out.

And so said the METO... "Saturday will be mostly dry for much of the UK..."

Tell that to those underneath some major soakings, and more to come looking from Cumbria down to Wales, Midlands into Somerset at this time. :o

As I speak, (ok, type!) I'm still witnessing some major convection going off.

Told ya John Holmes. :o (See other thread!) :D

Phil.
