There's 16cm in my back garden, but in the car park at work which is only 8 miles away from me there is 21cm. And yes, I am actually making it in to work!!

Lovely pics TVW.

Here in Gateshead there is the most amount of snow since the early nineties, and we have had lying snow for around 18 days. There was a thaw of the December snow around the 28th which left cover only on grass or on north facing paths, but we've had lying snow again since the snowfalls on December 31st.

It has been a remarkable cold spell, particularly in the north of England and Scotland. I think in December even with a fairly mild first third temps in the majority of Scotland were nearly 4C below average and they had continuous snow cover.

Nowhere near comparable, but we have an inch lying around on untouched surfaces etc here in SE London. We have thus far had ten days (yes ten, count them!) with lying snow on the ground. Not much by NE standards, but a damn fine effort for London!! :cray:

My mum in NW Kent is reporting 3-4" so will pop down there later. :nonono:

Guildford, Surrey.

5 to 6 cm of fresh snow overnight and this morning.

Maximum depth at 11:30 am, was 13~14 cm but more typically 10~11 cm.

A slow thaw has reduced much of the snow cover on roads and from branches of trees. Final depth at 9 pm was 13 cm on some ground but more typically 8~10 cm.

January 2010 is becoming an exciting winter month and in league with January 1979 & 1982!

For here in my back garden, taking readings off my hole-less garden table, I have the snow depths for every day since the first day of this snowy spell.

Tue 05th: 01cm (by 6pm after snow showers during the day)

Wed 06th: 14cm (after heavy overnight snow)

Thu 07th: 14cm

Fri 08th: 13cm

Sat 09th: 12cm

Sun 10th: 09cm

Mon 11th: 05cm

Tue 12th: 01cm

Wed 13th: 05cm (heavy overnight snow, mostly wet though)

A lot of the snow from this morning is on its way out now and back down to about 01cm at the most.

These were taken on different level surfaces around the village on Monday in my attempt to get a reasonable average.

Gee, can't get used to these new fandangled measuring things, called centimeters. My old yardstick is struggling to cope, so with a new centimeter thingy, it measures

0cms

I think I'll stick with me yardstick in future :whistling:
