Hope so,

The 18z GFS go's against it, just staying very cold and dry. But tbh i very rarely agree with the 18z.

Tomorrow will shed more light on the situation.

Lewis

Yeah tomorrow's runs will be very important, and hopefully the ECM will stick to it's guns, as tonights run was amazing. The GFS has been all over the place lately and can't be trusted even in the short term :wallbash:

now turned to snow up here, small-medium size flakes, but falling quite quickly. it's starting to put a slushy cover over the road and cars

well just got back and its 2.5c and dew of 0.7c!!!! is there a chance?

There could be a few surprises mate, but most of the PPN showing on the radars is on the light side.

It depends which model you look at :)

Checkout the ECM and NOGAPS :)

We've had continuous but very light snow since approx 2100—the accumulation is barely 1cm so far. In the current situation our conditions will be very similar to that of Buxton...same altitude, same rural setting and just over the hill.

I'm off to bed now but temp has dropped 0.3°C since midnight and is now 4.3°C, which is still really warm and I have just been out and it feels it. However, the big news is is that it still dry but my DP has now reached 0°C. the lowest it has been since yesterday evening.

Precip still seems to be to the SW of here and does not appear to be changing much in nature, according to Raintoday. As to the argument about the positioning of today's low, I don't know if the GFS was right or not, however, the mild sector definately reached here around 05:30 this morning and has been here ever since. This was much further North than the ECM suggested so I guess some brownie points are in order for the much maligned GFS: it has certainly put a big dent in the local snow cover which I was certain on Sunday night would survive until the next snowfall. Now it is touch and go, especially if the temps remain this high all night.

Will check back in the morning: night all.lazy.gif

No chance of anything here this evening as its just too warm. The temperature is 4.1C and the dewpoint 0.9C. The problem in this setup is we're now drawing our air off the North Sea. This introduces modification at the surface and increases the dewpoint. This is why in an easterly you need to look for 850hPa temperatures of -8C or below when at sea level near to the coast to have a better chance of snow. Theres also the issue that the temperature will struggle to make it to freezing around here unless an easterly flow is particularly potent. Even with 850hPa temperatures touching -12C we didnt get below freezing in the last spell until the wind veered northerly and the warming effects of the North Sea stopped.

I think it's been sleeting most of the night, snow now though. For how long though? A covering further up.

That did make me chucklesmile.gif Heavy sleet here, reminds me of days gone by,the ever so slow transition to snow, rather than the opposite. What used to follow that was....well....lets step back in time shall wecold.gif

The A640 is now shut up the hill, due to snow....big drifts up there anyway and good coverage from last week, will be bad.
