The Forecast Poetry Style,

Snow in the South east nothing in the West

Lets concentrate on London we don't care about the rest

We're funded by westminster, THe national Met

But never trust our forecasts if your placing a bet

Our GW agenda suits is to the core

We rabbing on day after day, the bore, bore , bore

Oh yes one coner of the map is more relevant than the rest

Yes you've got it the East and not the West

Sunday shall see widespread snow as long as its in the East

A dusting is significant well call it the Eastern Beast

The West will plough themselves out free

Whilst We consentrate on Essex, Kent and Surrey.

News 24 with its presenter across the country

Well within a 30 mile diameter of Essex, Kent and Surrey

Oh no it's an ice age 2cm in Buckingham

The tubes shut down and theres 50 miles traffic jams,

Let's concentrate on London because it's the South East

It's the worsly affected place from that Eastern Beast

We'll forget about the West and the shivering North

Our focuse lies solely on canary warf

By Me

Found this on the previous thread - sums up the met fairly well really!

Anyway, another unforecasted whitout here.

Think flow in these parts looks ESE just now or maybe EESE (if thats a legitmate direction !). That might kill anything coming down the estuary towards Embra/south shore of the Forth. ... North side of the estuary/Fife coast/Angus northwards looks to be favoured for landfall. Certainly nothing that was on the radar an hour ago has made it here in the past 60 minutes or so, just dying on its feet to the east of Dunbar and if anything backing further out to sea.

Out my back window I can see a] an organised cloud bank to the east, whether its snow bearing at all or just forthcoming greyness seems hard to tell and b] the rising smoke from Cockenzie power station (12 miles east of here) , wind is slowly blowing that gently northwards rather than towards us, so another indicator of some southerly component in the flow out there.

Edit: looks fairly high, non-precipitative cloud, so think we're done snow wise here for the foreseeable future. Will be happy to bank todays mini-covering, and hopefully another ice-day ... and then get ready for the likely decline in the quantity and quality of snow cover in the next few days, here in Leith at least :whistling:

Sorry to hear that WB. Its the danger we all face down the east coast....theres as much pain as gain in this increasingly marginal situation for us coasties.

from other topic

yeah definately for us coasties, though im used to it as through the whole cold spell so far the snow has thawed and come back and the temps have risen and fallen too but this was the longest we have had snow laying so it was annoying to see it melt

More flakes there falling out of a mostly broken-cloud and mostly sunny sky - but nothing of note. Just one of those days when any passing cloud wants to give something up ! Lamp-post snow in the daytime really....

Radar - and well broken clouds above - don't indicate anything at all on the south side of the forth.

Hi all

It was nice to see some snow falling this morin when I got up, I was a little worried as the temp went up to +0.8, but has now started to go down again.

Also I was wondering if anyone could give us more idea what the models are showing for next week, is this cold spell starting to breakdown??? cc_confused.gifcc_confused.gif

Holyrood Park is looking quite scenic on the Beeb 1 now for the great Edinburgh run.

Here flurries continuing. My brother has just told me that there is a heavier shower on at the moment in Aberfeldy, Perthshire.

Think its the price you're paying for being 800ft ASL Blitzen. Bit of an inversion about today, cold air clinging to the surface in valleys/sea-level. Looks like you're poking into something slightly warmer from the east and above any inversion at this point.

Cloud looks mostly generally broken in the Fife/Lothians area so you should be into a frost again a bit later ?

Would be nice to see some icicles! Haven't had any yet because we haven't had a thaw until now. :wallbash:

Snow stopped, had an added 2 inches from it with the radar suggesting some more possible in the next few hours. Off to build a snowman and an igloo!

Temps down to -0.1C now. Overnight will be about consolidating snow cover and getting it as cold at the surface as possible before coastal modification becomes an issue in the coming days. I suspect that any showers will still be of snow for a few days to come but there looks like being some thawing along the east coast. Still, with more of a southerly element pushing the cold air across mainland Britain north we might avoid too much melt. Any breakdown would likely lead to a lot of snowfall, but as GP says these atlantic fronts at the moment and going to affect the surface cold so little that it would take a long time for a full breakdown, by which time the block would likely have moved back to our north.
