Another very heavy sleet shower here. It's desperately trying to lay, but it's just a touch too wet and is melting a few seconds after hitting the surface

Edit: Proper flakes now :wallbash:

Should be a drop in temp from now for eastern coastal counties.

Dew point will start dropping rather quickly now too.

Precipitation will die back for a few hours now for coastal areas,

With some showers pushing back in during the early hours, with some hefty ones around around 6-8am

Anything falling from the sky from 3am onwards will be of snow.

Best of luck everyone,

Good night

Bummer!

Temp dropped to 2.3C, Dew point now -4.1C but guess what?

No PPN! Showers missed us and it's looking a lot drier now.

Never mind! :nonono:

Morning peeps,

Colder air is with us, we need to get as much as we can out of it during the next 18 hours.

convection should start to kick up a bit aswell now.

I have a light dusting with an earlier shower, with a kind of beefy one heading my way now.

Problem with the lack of showers is because of the HP, not just that, as the HP is just North of us. If you look at the wind streams/direction it stays NE.

With the HP also across the N Sea, it's killing precipitation and convection, there's not enough instability. Hence why we stay in the clear window.

If you look at the latest MO radar, you can see what EA and the SE are going to get. Then look at the GFS wind stream charts and also the pressure, you can clearly see what's happening.

We want to hope we get a bit of convection building ahead.

I don't really expect anymore showers, best bet is later this afternoon into tea-time/evening.

3 day update. Snow on the Wolds for the last 3 mornings, quite small amounts but more the higher up you go. Heavy hail/snow showers yesterday afternoon/evening with some temporary wet coverings thawing in between the showers, continuing until after midnight..

The roads yesterday morning were appalling with light/snow hail covering on top of ice, which almost made it un-driveable in places, a few cars spotted in ditches!

Much better this morning as temp dropped to -1.5 with 3cms powder cover, but again the roads were poor with snow on top of ice, though perversely better at Garrowby than at home!

Some slight patches off snow off the Wolds into York, but just had a very heavy shower leaving a covering here, Clifton Moor.

Wouldn't have taken much of a lower temperature in the last few days to have been looking at a decent cover on the Wolds by now, but hey, not complaining. good.gif

Flow changing in the North Sea to direct Easterly.

Not what we wanted! :'( all the showers in the north sea are now moving more or less East to West.

Clear skies for the for-seeable future.

Heavy snow shower here Otley last 20mins - covered ground well.

Seem to be in the firing line at the moment.

When we have loads forecast we get none.... wallbash.gif

When none is forecast we get a loads ....yahoo.gif

It is always correct. Get the cold in place and see what happens. Snow forecasting as we all know is full of surprises...

Convection starting to kick off now (slightly).

We have the colder pool over us until at least 12pm tomorrow afternoon, so still plenty of time for changes/features to develop.

Touch wood, i think 5-6pm onwards may get interesting.
