It's been showing precipitation on the Met Office radar in Leeds for the last hour but there hasn't even been a single flake yet?! What's going on?

Been snowing here now for an hour.

Was light for the first 15-20 minutes then been moderate/heavy since. We already had a covering on the ground from yesterday so this is just going and settling straight on top.

Could be a significant amount for us going on the radar / wind direction.

Well i could, but then that would be taking a guess? If i'm correct around his area its very hilly, up and down, so it depends where abouts he lives does it not?

Creswell i think is 200m ASL.

very slight snow commenced at 1626

That's good news for me. :D

Temp just hit 1.9c here with a dew of -1.4c

would you say the metoffice's est of 1-3cm about right? It seems as if the precipitation is really beefing up now, and judging by the temps etc and dew points, when it's more close to marginal you tend to get bigger flakes, and heavier snow as saturation is greater.

Creswell i think is 200m ASL.

According to Google Maps Creswell village is 80m (262.5ft) ASL.

NW radar has been showing rain for the past two hours at my postcode but it has been snowing continuously for all that time. Snow has just appeared on the radar about twenty miles to the west of us.

Gritters are out in force - 3 have passed the house in the last half hour.

Well frontal snow can still happen. First decent attempt for about 13 years. Only problem is that the front is moving fairly fast so it shouldn't last long.

Hi Lewis

I'm 98m above sea level, the highest part of the village is about 110m. Clowne which is a mile up the road is about 140m

Snow still falling here, good dusting (0.5cm). Temp is 0.7c. If it keeps it up i might get a cm out of it before the it turns to rain smile.gif

Still dry here with a temp of +0.8C and dew point of -2.1. Temp also seems to be dropping as the front encroaches which is a good sign!

The next problem which I didn't anticipate is amounts. The radar seems to show a gap over us getting only very light PPN.I just checked the forecast too and they are now forecasting a total of 0.6mm's here overnight!! I don't normally pay attention to the amounts but surely thats not a good sign!

Nevermind, Let's hope what Lewis mentioned pulls off. There would be no worrying about margins then ey!!

Re the temp drop. I was quite surprised to see that as it normally rises before precipitation then falls back.

Anyway Snowing heavily but not for much longer as the front is zooming along.

Snowing heavily ATM, PPN looks to be zooming past, which is pretty annoying as its been taking forever to move east all day. Anyway temp at -0.6c with a DP of -1.c. Around 2cm of snow on all surfaces, Been snowing for 1hour and 15 minutes.
