Personally I am happy the Met Warning has been lifted as I am unaccustomed to having a warning for snow until just before it arrives.

Usually with the Met the 'DG' area goes from no warnings to flash warnings...

Weatherwise - grey, damp and chilly

See my new graph in my sig, which shows that while the max temp may have gradually increased over the years - the avg temp stayed about the same..... until this winter!! (click on it to see a larger version)

Possibly January 2007? I don't think we had any/much snow in March 2007. January 2007 was pretty good, the Kilmacolm snow made it onto Reporting Scotland :)

That was the snow where we got a good few inches and Ross B in Kilmarnock had 9C and rain...

I think it was Feb 2007. Good times :)

The 12z not so good for Thursday onwards for Scotland though the wrap around still looks good to give a decent amount of snow perhaps to Eastern Scotland though the heaviest wil lbe in a small area IMO.

After that the 12z GFS looks very interesting for you guys in FI with a deep LP tracking into England. Personally I hope that doesn't happen but the 12z certainly would be interesting for you guys up there...

Yip - if it's the one I remember - we had about a foot of snow in Stirling overnight on the Sat into Sunday, at that time, that was the most snow I'd seen in nearly 15 years, and certainly the most snow my kids had seen.

Not sure if Stirling will collect any this week, but we live in hope - I just hope I picked the right week to be off work :)

5 C and liquid snow here. Well, at least something's happening biggrin.gif

Edit: Thanks for the summary LSS. For me, looking at the fax charts; there's so many fronts and troughs moving around that anyone could see some heavy prep through the week, and of the frozen variety too. I think we'll see the meto warnings chop and change as usual. Hope we all get a share.

And what will happen to this low/afterwards? That's got me quite interested - some potential for colder weather to come?

I saw that the 12z threw up a huge blizzard deep in FI, on the 24th into the 25th February (in particular) for much of Scotland. As you say, complete rubbish for England though (particularly for as far south as you Darren :))

Edit: 12z NMM looking decent for the chance of some wet snow and proper snow showers from tomorrow late afternoon onwards across western and northern Scotland. So I may well see falling snow :), doubt it will accumulate though :)

It's brilliant to be able to talk total and utter off-topic nonsense and still not have comments deleted!laugh.gif

I've kinda given up on the GFS 18Z 'cause I'm slightly bored with looking and charts that continually change but I'll update on the NAE and NMM for other single adolescent weirdosbiggrin.gif

and SS, LP and SL2 dirol.gif

That combined with a rather bad hangover, and a wife that fell and damaged ligaments in her hand (she was tipsey as well!!!!! :)) but had a good day otherwise.

Nice to see other members from across the border enjoying the banter here, and I dare say the more sane updates from our resident forecaster.

4C here with a few clearer spells after a day of mostly drizzle and 7C

Don't worry Honorary Scot, ladies love the weather chat. Honestly, they do. I'm sure of it. I think anyway...or maybe that was shoes rolleyes.gif

3.7 C here. Having read the model chat I'm more confused than ever. Think I should stick to this thread.

Ok, for tomorrow wet with hill snow across the pennines and a similar story in Scotland though with sleet and snow showers packing into the northwest highlands by evening http://expert.weatheronline.co.uk/daten/proficharts/en/nae/2010/02/14/basis18/ukuk/prty/10021518_1418.gif

http://expert.weatheronline.co.uk/daten/proficharts/en/nae/2010/02/14/basis18/ukuk/prty/10021606_1418.gif

Fronts clearing to leave scattered showers in northwestern Scotland and a frost elsewhere, though how far southwest showers get remains to be seen http://expert.weatheronline.co.uk/daten/proficharts/en/nae/2010/02/14/basis18/ukuk/taup/10021606_1418.gif

Dewpoints clearly conduicive to snow. By 12pm more snow getting into western Scotland, northern Scotland and the northwest of England +the Isle of Man http://expert.weatheronline.co.uk/daten/proficharts/en/nae/2010/02/14/basis18/ukuk/prty/10021612_1418.gif

Still cold enough for snow almost anywhere in northern Britain http://expert.weatheronline.co.uk/daten/proficharts/en/nae/2010/02/14/basis18/ukuk/taup/10021615_1418.gif

And after that precipitation (ignore the blues being rain because dewpoints are below 0C) spills across northern England and southern Scotland, the front clips into northeast Scotland and Fife is left wedged between these two bands!wallbash.gif

The GFS shows something from Wednesday night onwards http://charts.netweather.tv/gfsimages/gfs.20100214/18/78/ukprec.png

http://charts.netweather.tv/gfsimages/gfs.20100214/18/93/ukprec.png

http://charts.netweather.tv/gfsimages/gfs.20100214/18/102/ukprec.png

http://charts.netweather.tv/gfsimages/gfs.20100214/18/114/ukprec.png

It has been shown for a few days now to one to watch certainly - a slow moving front pushing into colder air http://charts.netweather.tv/gfsimages/gfs.20100214/18/75/ukpaneltemp.png

http://charts.netweather.tv/gfsimages/gfs.20100214/18/96/ukpaneltemp.png

http://charts.netweather.tv/gfsimages/gfs.20100214/18/117/ukpaneltemp.png

Again, snow events pop up from nowhere at times under low pressure so precipitation forecasting will not be as straightforward as usual but this is a rough guide to the next day or two.

Ah its cool, I'm pretty much ready for convective/hurricane seasons anyway now!

Either way the wrapround still looks to be the best shot, the snow risks seems to be reducing as the models trend the intial LP further south and the LP around 168hrs further west which means the milder air sweep the whole country rather then just the south like on the 12z run.
