Thanks, I wish I'd done a longer video, but I was busy looking out the front and back and it kind of crept up on me. I read Harry's post with interest, we have indeed witnessed quite a few of these in this area, so if I see any more in future I'll train the camera on them!.

Your a star snow cat, BIG thanks. Will give this a watch now.

Hmmmm, the showers that managed to make it across the Irish Sea are gaining intensity over land again. I have dark clouds surrounding me now. Doubt they'll be thundery but it is interesting to note.

Can still see lightning from the cells now to my northwest. They look pretty strong on the net radar. Anyone in Huddersfield?

First post from Halifax - about 40 mins ago started and lightening for about 15 mins with heavy rain, caused a brief power outage too.

Now just rain ....

Definately looks like a supercell that moved across SE and E Kent after making landfall across Hastings. It reminds me of a similar supercell in that area around this time back in July 2007 in exactly the same area which supposedly produced a tornado. Seems bit of a hot spot there when storms make landfall, must be something to do with the topography providing uplift.

I headed SE of Tunbridge Wells to try and intercept but unfortunately the slow rush-hour traffic and poor roads meant it got too far ahead of me, was probably shifting at 50 mph+, if only I left earlier ...

Just to give some background on the topography. The high ground of the South Downs just to our West, just to the east of Hastings, we have some of the highest ground in Sussex up at Fairlight, known locally as the firehills.

The 2007 Supercell and todays if confirmed, followed the same track. A southerly aproach off the channel to Hastings town (low ground) then movement East toward Folkestone along the coast, crossing that high ground of Fairlight.

Not sure if that helps?

a huge boost for the accuracy of the netweather radar... very well worth the money spent then though a massive shame its lost its sferics :(

Shame, might still take a quick walk along to the cliffs though and see if there's any lightning in that latest one! :(
