Looks like the Metoffice have dropped their idea of a settled period mid month unfortunately. May change of course.

UK Outlook for Monday 15 Aug 2011 to Wednesday 24 Aug 2011:

To start the new week, a generally unsettled picture in the north and west with showers or longer spells of rain, this heavy on western hills, and quite breezy with a risk of gales in the far northwest. Somewhat drier and brighter elsewhere to begin with, but the unsettled weather should move eastwards from midweek to affect most parts of the UK before the end of the week. Thereafter, the changeable conditions seem likely to continue with occasional rain or showers interspersed with drier, brighter periods, but perhaps an increased chance of some brighter and drier days towards the south and east. Temperatures should remain near normal, but occasionally above normal towards the south and east of England, and below normal in the fresher, windier northwest.

UK Outlook for Tuesday 16 Aug 2011 to Thursday 25 Aug 2011:

The period starts rather wet and unsettled towards the west and northwest, with near-normal temperatures for mid-August. The temperature will be tempered somewhat by the brisk wind at times, however. Meanwhile, southeastern parts of the country look favoured for the best dry and bright weather, with temperatures perhaps becoming warm around midweek, giving a chance of thundery showers here towards the weekend. Later in the week, the rest of the country should see cloud become more broken, with some showers but also more in the way of bright or sunny spells expected. The final few days of the period look to generally favour winds from the western quadrant, with more settled conditions narrowly favoured, giving some rainfall but an increased likelihood of dry and bright spells, especially in the east.

UK Outlook for Wednesday 17 Aug 2011 to Friday 26 Aug 2011:

The period starts rather wet and unsettled over many parts, with spells of rain moving erratically eastwards towards the weekend. Near-average temperatures for most will be tempered towards the northwest by the brisk wind here at times. Meanwhile, southeastern parts of the country look favoured for the warmest weather, however this comes coupled with an increasing chance of heavy or thundery showers at times up to and over the weekend. At the same time, other parts of the UK should see fairer weather, with a few showers but also some bright or sunny spells. The final week of the period should again see unsettled weather spread into the northwest, with the UK as a whole most likely seeing a return to unsettled conditions, with winds from the westerly quadrant.

Continuing unsettled for all thereafter, with showers or longer spells of rain, heaviest across the north and west. The best of the drier and brighter interludes across southern and eastern parts. Temperatures expected to be around normal.

Rather unsettled later next week, with winds from the westerly quadrant bringing spells of rain separated by brighter but showery conditions. The focus of the wetter weather will be towards the northwest, giving cool conditions here that will be accentuated by occasional strong winds. Elsewhere, temperatures will be nearer-normal, with some fine weather at times and a lesser frequency of rain or showers, although these could be heavy and thundery at first in the southeast. From Sunday and into the new week, more settled conditions are expected across most parts, with rain and showers becoming largely confined to northern and western areas. Temperatures should continue to be around or a little below average countrywide, although a few warmer days may be expected in the southeast, particularly towards the end of the period.

UK Outlook for Saturday 27 Aug 2011 to Monday 5 Sep 2011:

Unsettled conditions will continue to bring rain or showers to the UK at times over the weekend and into the start of next week, although some drier and sunnier spells are also likely in between. Rain or showers may turn heavy at times with a risk of some thunder, especially on Saturday. Breezy winds are expected across many parts of the UK, becoming strong for a time in the north. From Tuesday, some longer periods of dry and bright weather are possible, however the risk of some outbreaks of rain still exists, particularly in the far north and southwest of the UK. Temperatures are expected to remain close to, or just below normal throughout the period.

UK Outlook for Sunday 28 Aug 2011 to Tuesday 6 Sep 2011:

A general improvement in conditions for next week with a good deal of fine, dry weather across the UK. However there will still be a risk of some showers at first but these will become increasingly confined to the north and east towards midweek, where it will also be quite windy at times. Temperatures generally near normal by day but chilly by night, however it may turn locally warm in the south in the best of the sunny spells. Conditions then expected to start to turn more unsettled again during or just after the weekend after next with a risk of strong winds and heavy rain across northern and western parts, and a threat of thundery showers affecting southern and eastern areas. Temperatures then staying near average for early September.

UK Outlook for Wednesday 31 Aug 2011 to Friday 9 Sep 2011:

Largely dry with a mixture of cloud and bright or sunny spells at the start of the period. Whilst many regions look set to then remain mainly fine and dry through the rest of the week, some western and southwestern areas are likely to turn more unsettled with showers or longer spells of rain, and perhaps some thundery downpours in the south. These unsettled conditions may then spread into other parts of the UK during the weekend and start of the following week. Some chilly nights, especially in the North. Meanwhile, daytime temperatures are expected to be largely around average during the middle part of next week; some indication of warmer conditions developing over southern, eastern and central UK later next week.

UK Outlook for Saturday 3 Sep 2011 to Monday 12 Sep 2011:

The weather is likely to become generally unsettled by next weekend although southeastern areas might stay dry and warm on Saturday. The unsettled weather will last through the following week, with the northwest seeing the bulk of wetter and windier weather, whilst the southeast should see less rainfall and more in the way of drier and brighter conditions. Many places could become quite windy at times with gales possible, particularly for exposed parts of the north and west. Temperatures across northern and western areas will be near-normal on the whole, with the southeast probably rising a little above average at times. The later stages of the outlook period will probably retain the generally unsettled theme, separated by drier and brighter interludes, the best of these towards the south and east.
