With the 1981-2010 average at 11.7C on the back of a record warm April, i am inclined to go for another warmer than average month.

I can see a much wetter month than March and April (though still below average) however i do think that we will see little in the way of cooler weather aside from transient north westerlies as cloud will hold up minima from easterlies.

My prediction for May 2011 is 12.5C, 0.8C above average.

Tricky to call - probably slightly above average is my guess so I am going to say 12 degrees. Could be quite a topsy turvy month with some cool northerly and northeasterly airstreams interspersed with occasional warmer southerly/southeasterly airstreams - I'm expecting heights to remain preety strong near Greenland for most of the month allowing troughs to settled and become unstuck over the country at times but also some ridging from the south. Also expecting a wetter month than March and April, but only average amounts.

I have been meaning to have a go at this for the last couple of months so i hope i dont forget this time. I am going to wait until tommorow though to see what the met office have done with their 30 dayer after the ECM 30 day ensemble model run today.

I would say average based on the current model output for the first half of the month and the met office 6 - 15 dayer but i suspect their 15 - 30 dayer may be underestimating the possibility of a late may heatwave. Its just a hunch but i belive the cooler spells will only be slightly below average and there will be one spell of significantly above average temps.

12.8c please
