Some rain affects Portugal; Bitter winds in the Baltic

Monday


A dry and bright day in Portugal and southern Spain on Monday with high pressure building across Iberia. Still some showers for the Balearics and some heavy periods of rain for Corsica and Sardinia with low pressure in charge. Rain also affects southern Italy, with a few showers in the north. Greece and Turkey are dry with sunshine, but the Adriatic coast will see rain. Persistent rain in western France and northern Spain, with some patchy rain and drizzle across France and cloudy skies overall. Snow for the Swiss Alps, drier in Austria. Cloudy but generally dry in Germany, some rain in Belgium and the Netherlands. Some rain in the Czech Republic, and this turning to snow as it meets cold air over Poland and the Ukraine. High pressure remains centred over north-eastern Europe, bitterly cold in Finland although dry. A frigid wind blows through the Baltic, with some wintry flurries for Denmark.

Tuesday

Very cold across Eastern Europe and Scandinavia with subzero temperatures from Poland eastward. Windy and wet across Britain and France with outbreaks of heavy rain. Generally fair and dry across Holland and Belgium. Outbreaks of heavy snow are forecast across far south of Germany, the Alps across Austria and to Croatia and Serbia. Heavy rain is expected across Italy. Heavy showers to come in the central Mediterranean to affect, Corsica, Sardinia and Sicily. Cloudy across Greece with the risk of some rain in the far south, while it looks fine and dry with sunny spells across Turkey. Dry and mostly sunny as well across Bulgaria, Romania and the Ukraine. High pressure will give much of Scandinavia, Russia, the Baltic States, Russia, Belarus and Poland a dry but very cold day. Mainly dry as well across northern parts of Germany and Denmark. Maximum temperatures will remain below freezing across Scandinavia and from Poland eastward. An area of rain is expected from England down through France into central Mediterranean west of Sardinia. Snow is expected to spread into Norway today but a cold, dry day is expected across Sweden and Finland. A few snow flurries to come across Russia but for much of Eastern Europe it should be dry and these dry conditions extends westward across the Baltic States, Belarus, the Ukraine and most of Poland into Germany. Maximum temperatures will remain below freezing across Scandinavia and from Poland eastward. An area of rain is expected from England down through France into central Mediterranean west of Sardinia. Snow is expected to spread into Norway today but a cold, dry day is expected across Sweden and Finland. A few snow flurries to come across Russia but for much of Eastern Europe it should be dry and these dry conditions extends westward across the Baltic States, Belarus, the Ukraine and most of Poland into Germany. An area of heavy snow is expected across the Balkans States and the Adriatic region with rain across Greece. Fair and dry across eastern Spain, eastern France, and up across most of Belgium, Holland and Germany. Outbreaks of heavy snow are forecast for Denmark, Norway and Sweden. High pressure continues to keep it. Cold but dry across Finland, Russia, the Baltic States and Belarus while an area of moderate to heavy snow is forecast from: down across Czech Republic, the Alps, northern Italy, the Adriatic Region and eastward across Ukraine. There is a risk of snow across northern parts of Greece with heavy rain in the south. Largely dry across Romania, Bulgaria with snow flurries. Outbreaks of rain and snow will affect eastern Turkey but dry in the west. Plenty of heavy showers and will affect much of the Mediterranean region. Some of these showers will be heavy and prolonged. Today temperatures are expected to remain below freezing from Germany eastward across the rest of Europe.

High pressure strengthens over Russia

Tuesday


The south of Spain and Portugal should have a dry and fine day on Tuesday, but rain spreads into northern parts of Iberia, turning peristent and heavy, along with gusty winds. Wind and rain also affects France, turning heavy in the west, although the southern coast is dry. The Balearics are also dry and fine. Low pressure affects Italy with showery rain and snow over high ground. Northern Italy is drier and brighter. Rain and snow also affects the Balkans, with some heavy rain for Greece, along with blustery winds. Western Turkey also sees rain. Breezy conditions affect the Low Countries with some rain, whilst Germany is generally dry but cloudy and cool. Eastern Europe, is cold with winds from Russia bringing snow for Poland and Ukraine. Cold winds affect the Baltic, with light snow in southern Sweden and Norway, whilst Finland is dry but very cold.

Wednesday


Low pressure dominates much of Europe on Wednesday, whilst high pressure is strong over Russia. Outbreaks of rain affects northern Spain and southern France, whilst there are showers for Portugal and southern Spain too. Unsettled conditions extend through the Mediterranean, with heavy rain in western Italy, with Alpine snow. Southern Italy is drier overall, with improved conditions also for Greece. Turkey still sees rain, and heavy snow affects Romania and Bulgaria. Northern France and the Low Countries will see generally dry and cool weather, with a few showers. Germany remains dry and cloudy, and similar for Austria and the Czech Republic. Cold winds continue to affect eastern Europe and Scandinavia. Some snow flurries affect Denmark and southern Sweden. Dry and very cold conditions continue in the north.

Across the Adriatic the Balkan states are mostly dry, with a few showers in Greece. Rain clears away from Turkey, becoming snow for Romania and Bulgaria. We can expect some strong winds to Gale force across Britain, northern France cross Eastern Europe and from Sicily eastward to about Crete. Heavy outbreaks of rain will move in across England into western France with rain also into Portugal. Most of Spain, central and eastern France along with Belgium, Holland and Germany should be fair and dry. Outbreaks of heavy snow are forecast for Norway, Sweden and Denmark. High pressure across Russia will give a cold but dry day across Russia, Finland, Belarus, the Ukraine and Poland while some snow move into the Baltic States. Some snow is also forecast around the Black Sea area into eastern Romania in across Bulgaria. There is a risk of freezing rain across Croatia and Serbia but dry day across Hungary and the Czech Republic. Heavy spells of rain are forecast across Italy with snow over the Alps. Most of Turkey should be fair and dry.

Saturday


Continued windy through the eastern Mediterranean with gales through the English Channel and through the Straits of Gibraltar. Gales too are expected across Eastern Europe. Showers are expected across United Kingdom today. Mainly dry across northern France into Belgium and Holland except for some coastal showers. Further falls of heavy snow are forecast for Norway and Sweden and will also affect much of Finland today. It remains very cold but dry across Russia, Belarus, Ukraine into Poland. There is a risk of some snow or freezing rain across the Baltic States today. Heavy rain and gales spreads into north-western parts of Spain and Portugal during Tuesday. Dry and bright weather can be found in southern Spain and the Balearics. Outbreaks of rain continue to affect Italy with snow for the southern Alps. A scattering of showers may also affect Greece, but plenty of dry spells too, and similar for Turkey and Cyprus. France sees gusty winds in the west with rain arriving later. For much of France it will stay dry during the day with some brighter spells. The Low Countries and Germany are largely dry, with broken cloud. Dry weather extends across much of eastern Europe influenced by high pressure, with sunny spells in the Czech Republic and Poland. Some wintry flurries for Sweden and Norway but plenty of dry weather too.

Wednesday


Outbreaks of rain across Spain tend to ease throughout Wednesday, although cloudy skies are dominant, similar for Portugal. Heavy rain and Alpine snow affects the south of France, spreading further heavy rain into northern Italy. A scattering of showers again affects Greece but largely dry and fine. Northern France will see strong winds and spells of rain, with breezy conditions also affecting the Low Countries with showers. Some rain and mountain snow in southern Germany and Switzerland, with drier weather to the north of Germany. Denmark is also breezy, although mostly dry.
