A dry day but colder come across the United Kingdom, Belgium and Holland. Further heavy snowfall is expected across Norway today with an area of rain stretching from Finland through Sweden down across Germany into France, Spain, Portugal and the Balearics. Heavy snow fall is expected across the Alps with rain in the extreme north of Italy. Central southern Italy should remain dry. Expect a good deal of cloud, but it should be dry across much of Russia and the Baltic States where it will be dry. Continued across Belarus, Poland, most of the Balkans States and the Adriatic Region although rain and showers are forecast across Greece. A dry day is expected across Turkey, Romania and Ukraine. It will remain quite windy across eastern Europe with strong gales in the western Mediterranean.

Rain and strong winds in north-western Europe, some heavy showers in Greece

New Year's Day

New Year's Day across Europe will see rain spread into north-western parts of Spain and Portugal and also into north-west France, accompanied by strong winds. Cloudy skies for central Spain, with sunny spells along the Mediterranean coast. Dry weather extends through the Balearics and into northern Italy, with partly cloudy skies and some sunshine. A few showers are possible in the south of Italy. Heavy showers and some longer spells of rain are likely to affect southern Greece, including Crete and also western Turkey. Patchy rain and strengthening winds spread towards the Low Countries during the day, whilst Germany will see a lot of cloud in the west. Switzerland and Austria are dry with sunny spells. Dry weather also affects eastern Europe, with some sunshine in Hungary, but thicker cloud and the risk of fog in Ukraine and into Russia. Breezy in Denmark with outbreaks of rain, extending into Norway with some mountain snow. Drier through the Baltic for Sweden and Finland.

Some persistent and heavy rain in northern Spain and Portugal on Thursday, with a few showers possible for the south of Spain. Rain spreads across France overnight and may continue with drizzle during the day. Showery rain affects the north of Italy, with snow likely into the Swiss Alps. Austria is drier but largely cloudy. A brighter day in southern Italy and Greece, but some showers may affect southern Turkey and Cyprus. It is relatively mild in eastern Europe with a southerly breeze and some sunshine for Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic. A few showers in the Low Countries, but sunny spells on offer with a brisk breeze. Persistent rain and drizzle is expected in Germany and also Denmark. Gales with rain and snow affect Norway and southern Sweden. Some snow showers in Finland but dry conditions prevail in the Baltic.

Some persistent and heavy rain in Portugal on Thursday, also affecting central parts of Spain with persistent falls of rain and drizzle. A few showers on the Costas but generally drier. Fairly cloudy through the Baleraics and southern France with rain in northern Italy. A brighter day in southern Italy with just a scattered shower, whilst Greece becomes dry with any showers clearing east. Outbreaks of rain in south-western Turkey. Early rain in France clears east in the morning, and brings some snow to the Swiss Alps. Cloudy with drizzly rain in southern Germany, but mostly dry in Austria. Some bright spells in Hungary, the Czech Republic and Poland, although clouds thicken from the west. Patchy rain in Belgium and Holland in the morning, but brightening up later. Patchy rain and drizzle in north-western Germany too. Gusty winds with a few showers in Denmark, with more persistent rain and snow in southern Norway and Sweden. Breezy but generally dry in the Baltic states and Finland.

Further outbreaks of rain in northern Portugal and central parts of Spain on Friday, but again drier and brighter in the south. Looking dry for Italy and Greece, with sunny spells and only very isolated showers. Still some rain in the south of Turkey, and also affects Cyprus through the day. Persistent rain affects central and southern France with breezy conditions in the north. Cloudy in Switzerland with some patchy rain and snow. Dry and bright in Austria and Hungary. Some heavy outbreaks of rain expected in Portugal and north-western parts of Spain on Tuesday. Southern Spain looking drier with sunny spells. High pressure across the Mediterranean brings sunny spells and dry weather for the Balearics and Italy. The Balkan states are largely dry, but expect a few showers in the southern Greek Islands and Crete. Turkey is dry with sunny spells. Outbreaks of rain affects western France with breezy conditions in the north. Southern France is dry with broken cloud. Switzerland and Austria are dry but quite cloudy. Dry weather also extends into eastern Europe although quite chilly with cloud in Ukraine and the Czech Republic. Breezy for the Low Countries and northern Germany with a few showers around northern coasts. Dry with sunny spells in southern Germany. Windy with showers in Denmark and southern Scandinavia with some heavier rain and mountain snow in western Norway along with gales. Some heavy rain in the Baltic states and southern Finland. High pressure remains a dominant feature in the south of Europe on Wednesday. Fine and dry weather in the south of Spain and Portugal. Outbreaks of rain continue to affect more north-western parts of Iberia, with some heavy falls in northern Portugal. The Balearics and Italy remain dry and fine with sunshine, with Greece also mostly dry and sunny too on Wednesday, and similar in Turkey. Some patchy rain for north-west France, but otherwise France is dry and fine with a slight breeze. Dry again in Switzerland and Austria with some sunny breaks. Cloudy skies for much of France, with some rain in the north-west of France. Brighter skies in the south. Dry but with partly cloudy skies in Switzerland and Austria with some sunny breaks. Some rain in northern Germany during the morning, clearing eastwards into Poland. Drier in southern Germany. Breezy with showers in the Baltic States and southern Sweden. Southern France is dry with sunny spells, but outbreaks of rain affect northern France with blustery winds. The Low Countries, Denmark and northern Germany will see some heavy periods of rain along with gusty winds. Partly cloudy but dry through Switzerland, Austria and the Czech Republic. Some patchy rain moves into the west of Poland later. Rain affects the south of Norway and Sweden, with brighter spells in the further north, whilst Finland will see some snow in the north.

Dry and fine weather for Spain and Portugal on Friday with sunny spells. Dry weather extends throughout the Mediterranean with sunny spells in Italy, the Balkans, Greece and Turkey. Sunny spells in southern France, with more cloud in the north but dry overall. Light winds and staying mostly dry through southern Germany, Switzerland and Austria with some sunshine. Cloudy skies and outbreaks of rain affect Spain and Portugal on Tuesday, with a few showers reaching the Balearics. Low pressure brings some persistent and heavy rain for many parts of Italy too. A few showers for Greece, western Turkey and Cyprus, but drier overall with some sunny spells. Cloud and light rain and drizzle for France, with brighter skies in the north-west. Some patchy rain too in southern Germany with some heavier rain and snow in Switzerland and western Austria. Eastern Austria, Hungary and the Czech Republic are drier with bright spells. Patchy rain for the Low Countries. Some wintry flurries in southern Scandinavia, with light rain at lower levels in Denmark and southern Sweden. High pressure means brighter spells in northern Norway, Sweden and Finland.

Wednesday

A drier and brighter day in southern Spain, but further rain spreads into the north-west and into Portugal. Rain clears southwards through Italy, with sunny spells in the north. Some heavy rain affects the Balkan States and western Greece, although eastern parts are drier, with sunny spells for Turkey and Cyprus. Dry and fine in central and southern France with breezy conditions and thicker cloud in the north. Some rain for the Low Countries with blustery winds. A cold front pushes south-east across Spain on Thursday bringing a spell of rain to many southern regions. Brighter skies spread in across central areas, but some heavy showers affect the north and into northern Portugal, wintry over high ground. Outbreaks of rain affect much of France too, becoming heavy in the south-east in the afternoon, with snow over the Alps. Italy is mostly dry, but rain reaches the north-west through the afternoon. Plenty of sunshine in the south. A few showers may affect the Balearics. The Balkan states are dry with some sunshine. Frequent rain and showers affect the Greek Islands and western Turkey, becoming drier from the west. Cloudy skies, rain and drizzle affect Germany, with the risk of snow in the east in the morning. Partly cloudy in Switzerland with snow and rain in the west later. Sunny spells in Austria. Much of eastern Europe will be dry but cloudy and cool. Low pressure brings snow to the east of Ukraine and Russia. Fronts bring gusty winds and rain to Denmark and the Low Countries, turning to snow in southern Norway and Sweden. Further north high pressure remains dominant, with very cold but dry weather in northern Scandinavia.

Windy and cold across Scandinavia today with strong south east winds. Outbreaks of heavy snow are forecast for Norway, Sweden and north eastern parts of Poland. Some light snow may also affect parts of Finland with a few snow showers around the coasts of the Baltic Region. Most of the Baltic States along with Russia should be cold but dry area. Windy across northern Europe with some rain for the extreme north of France. Most of France though should be fair and dry as will Belgium and Holland. An area of rain expected from western Poland down through southern Germany into northern Italy, Corsica and Sardinia. Heavy snow is forecast across the Alps. Dry across southern Italy, much of the Balkans and the Adriatic Region. Mostly sunny and dry weather is expected across Turkey. Expect a few showers around the Balearics Islands with outbreaks of heavy rain expected across Portugal and the western half of Spain where it could be mixed with snow over high ground. Temperatures will be subzero across Scandinavia and from eastern Poland eastward into Russia.

Heavy bursts of rain also affects the Balearics in the afternoon. Southern France, and much of Italy is also unsettled with rain and Alpine snow frequent. Some heavy rain in the Adriatic also affects the Balkan states, although Greece stays largely dry. Warm sunshine in Turkey and Cyprus. Patchy rain eases for northern France and the Low countries. Germany stays mostly cloudy and cool. Some snow for Switzerland, whilst Austria and the Czech Republic are mostly dry with variable cloud. Snow affects eastern Poland and western Ukraine. High pressure remains dominant with very cold and dry conditions in northern Scandinavia. Windy with gales for southern parts of Norway, Sweden and Denmark and a few wintry showers.

Monday

Rain clears eastwards from Spain and Portugal on Monday as high pressure builds across Iberia with sunny spells on offer. A few showers in eastern Spain, and some heavy bursts of rain for the Balearics. Low pressure dominates southern Europe with persistent rain and heavy showers for Corsica, Sardinia and Italy during the day, with snow in the Alps. Outbreaks of rain too for the Adriatic coasts, but Greece is again mostly dry and similar for Turkey with sunshine. Broken cloud in France, some showers in the west, and patchy rain and drizzle in the east which also affects Belgium and western Germany. Some rain for Austria and also the Czech Republic, which becomes snow in southern Poland and Ukraine. High pressure centred over Finland and Russia maintains the cold theme for Scandinavia, with bitter winds across the Baltic bringing a few snow flurries. Dry in the north.
