Yesterday was another lovely day with virtually unbroken sunshine (a few bits of high cloud in the morning this time) and a max of 22.9C here. Went for a walk in some woods in Mid Devon where it was more like 25C.

A nice start to the day here.. quite cool on the valley floor unlike recent nights with a min of 7.6C and currently 7.7C and some nice shallow mist/fog patches :)

If you look quick the warmth must have heated the seas enough to form a hurricane off Kent http://www.xcweather.co.uk/ laugh.png

Perhaps someone with Weather could put the photo on here so we can all see?

MO sites do contain masts for equipment such as sensors and anemometers, Trawsgoed does, not sure about the concrete though..

Yes, it looks like a mast for sensors but the article refers to being very close to a tower.

Anyway, here's the Gravesend part of the Stephen Burt/Philip Eden article from Weather September 2004.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v645/zloty/gravesend034.jpg

Their summary says this within it

"However, in the opinion of these authors there remains considerable doubt over the degree to which the values reported from Faversham and Gravesend are climatologically representative of these localities. The reported maxima from these sites should not be quoted without reservation."

Looks somewhat different on this (more recent?) photo (courtesy of TWO), masts and a brick hut, but nothing out of the ordinary for a MO weather enclosure?

Here (again courtesy of TWO), is the article by Burt and Eden, discussing the London and SE sites during the August 2003 heatwave:

Right on the boundary today between thick cloud to the NW and blue skies to the SE, which will win the battle for today.

It would be nice to have 1 more warm/very warm sunny day before the spell is over.

Same for us too — can see the clear blue skies to the south east. Strikingly cool without the sun!

Well and truly under the frontal cloud this morning, bit disappointing, as indications even yesterday were that the sun would hold out for much of Wales today.

Have a feeling the sun should break it up a bit this afternoon, and it is still warm for October, currently 18.5c.

24*C in Southend, 23*C in Biggin Hill, 22*C in London, slightly hotter than yesterday... I wonder if we could hit above 30*C, as the skies are a lot clearer than yesterday...

Looks fine for the West Midlands tomorrow however you may experience some late cloud in Shropshire but the rest of the region looks fine and hot. Should be good for you for most of the day. Even if it does you cant complain as we have all enjoyed such a great spell of weather!

Back to overcast skies here unfortunately today, still can't complain as it has been the best spell of weather this year by far.

Yes Robbie Cov airport was at 28c for 1020 but has corrected the error, 20c seems about right.

Today should be pretty much overcast for much of Scotland, Northern England, the W Midlands and NE Midlands and much of Wales and NI. Some cloud may break towards C Scotland and the Midlands/Wales. Should be clear and bright across much of East Anglia and Southern England throughout the day - possibly reaching 30c again.

I was having a quick look over the temps on XC weather it was actually showing 28c, I did gather it was obviously incorrect.

Currently 25.2C with largely clear skies. There is a little cirrus but a lot less than earlier this morning. Providing the largely sunny skies prevail, there's a decent chance of reaching 30C today here.

Yes, just looked at the satellite picture. The area of cloud is moving very slowly and looks as though it will take until around 5.0p.m for the edge of it to reach Cambridge, which should give you a whole day of heating.

It does looks promising to reach record proportions again (either by equalling, or surpassing 29.9). Hopefully that cloud will stays west.

Meanwhile here, after yesterdays 27.6C it's a case of cloud and cooler weather this morning, 10C cooler than yesterday but if you adjust your mindset, it's not too bad.

Right on the edge of the frontal cloud boundary, but the good news is that the cloud is readily breaking up now allowing for some good sunshine, and temps are responding, now up to 25C...lovely! biggrin.png

  • April 2024 - Was it that cold overall? A look at the statistics

General perception from many is that April was a cold month, but statistics would suggest otherwise, with the average temperature for the whole month coming in just above the 30 year average for the UK as a whole.
