the charts have been brilliant today

i think even the met office are unsure how strong the russian high is

certainly looking very cold from tuesday

fax tomorrow night may give a better indication ( i said may)

of how long this bitter weather will last

Models are really having a horrid time handling the Siberian Freezing Train :cold: :cold: :cold:

The very cold trend is already in place to the East which is heading our way :cold::yahoo:

All gritters and staff are on standby :good:

The main thing is, the cold is FINALLY here! Let's not look ahead to a weeks time on the model thread (as some of the wrist slashers are) but just take each day at a time 12, 24, 36 and 48 hours ahead!

Personally, I would be happy with a Feb 2009. A night and morning of snow, but enough to see a foot of snow fall and build a snowman in the back garden!

have a watch of this

good to see how the patterns are coming from the east

That's right JP. You can also see how the Western flow is circulating and not making much head way. I believe the amplification of the East flow will strengthen in the coming days.

Why do you think it is that the Metoffice/BBC forecasts are still showing maxes of 3-4C for many parts on Tuesday/Wednesday Steve? I can't see any of the charts showing maxes as high as this at that time frame!

Lets get the first batch of cold and snowy potential in Sunday night through Monday and then we can look at something for later next week. I can't believe the general negativity when we have had one of the mildest winters for years so far and we are now at least looking at decent potential in the next 7 days!!!

This really is the glass half full moment!

I think some are going to get a shock! the potential for snowfall is becoming something of interest! we cant underestimate just how severe this could get, its going to be a freeze up for sure.. ice days n stuff!

Yes we need to be positive, lets wait and see how this develops, small changes could bring more snow, troughs/showers in the flow, convection.

Everyone excited yet- I will be joining this area from Sunday night onwards...

regards

Steve

fingers Crossed!!!!

Yes, watching the warm fronts east edge cloud to start with! i expect some light ppn quite far east that would fall as snow, how far the front gets as we know is hard to place, slow moving to, so we can only hope it progresses enough east to give us some snowfall, then shifts of west again so we dont warm up!!

NW radar showing snow here but can confirm it is just very cold light rain. Temp is 3c as is the dew point...however I am only a half mile (if that) from the sea, it may well be snow a little inland??
