Went bed early last night so i can have a radar, lamp post night tonight but after my excitement this morning I'm reading again- sleet next to the Sea and coasts lines

WHY ???

I know its harder to snow here but it doesnt mean it can't today does it :cray:

Netweather, Met office and BBC all say snow so i'm confused :search:

Someone reassure me plz !!!!

Please be reassured, temps will drop right back again at the end of the day, frankly looking at the weather station this morning I think the ground conditions, wind direction, temps, DP, humidity etc etc are spot on for this event!

There was me looking at 4degC and thinking it looked high!

Well, for a guaranteed 100% chance of snow, ideally you do want it to be 0degC. However, this is at approximately 1300m up (850hPa), and it's cold in them thar first 1300m from ground to 850hPa ...

Theta-e 850hPa of less than 14C tend to indicate a (much) higher chance of snow than rain, however,

post-5986-0-83752600-1328352648_thumb.gi

with the probability fading to 0% as we approach theta-e's of 26degC's

:)

Wind will be due south when the front arrives, so immediate southern coastal areas of the Channel and perhaps along Essex and Suffolk coasts may experience some marginality with the wind off the sea.

I've got my itchy snow nose today, it only really starts like this when there are huge amounts due.......

Now not that models area lot of use now, but just having a look at this morning 06Z GFS, the sweet spot in terms of time is still between 00..00 tonight and 06.00 tomorrow morning (as it has been for 10 days!) and the line at that time-scale goes back and forward across Beachy Head!!!!

I'm sure people to the West of me will still end up with something very pleasing, but I may be unable to get out of the house and unfortunately, be off work for days....

:clapping:

Morning Coasty, im hoping the same too, want the snow but it has to be enough to stop me working out in it on Monday, all bendy thingys crossed eh!

Some real facial elasticity there... don't do it while staring into the wind though...

Had the tiniest of sprinkles last night that is now melting off the tops of the walls. Met and BBC say heavy snow for us tonight.

Agreed but typically in these set-ups it does tend to settle at night, during daytime hours it tends to take it to the wrong of marginal for settling snow. So personally here I'm expecting settling snow. May not be quite as high as those a little further inland but I'm still fairly comfortable at the moment with the evolution.

That will be down to what happens in the latter part of the next 24 hours. Keep any eye on this forum, the radar and the local news as transport may be affected to a greater or lesser degree and its a call you may want to make with more information to hand.

Thanks coast. Will be on here watching closely

Temp check in guys

-1c here -5c DP- thats a guess BTW

high layer of cloud still keeping that sun away-

S

Hi Steve, im guessing that all the time the cloud stays around it will help keep the temps low? Also with the precip due late evening for us lot it also helps with the temps being lower?

Out now for the rest of the day.

Whatever will be, will be.

Thanks to all the dedicated posters here; Coast, Kold Weather, Paul, Steve and others. It's definitely interesting reading your thoughts and your analysis of model updates etc.

I suspect my area will be in for a few cms overnight, possibly even more. I also suspect that tomorrow might be a grotty, slow thaw type of day, but hearing Phil Garner on BBC Essex this morning and also reading your views here, makes me think that the cold easterly weather might re-establish quickly, so even if tomorrow is like that, then the cold spell isn't done.

Next time I log on, I hope everyone has got what they want ( obviously lots of snow if you're here! ) :clapping::drunk:
