ah thanks for that reef so the radar cant really be relied on for where its going to be wet. it just gives us clues as to what might happen like i said earlier just stick to looking out the window today i think

so anyone in here actually getting anything falling out the sky at the moment

nothing at all, unfortunately lol

Few flakes in Hull but nothing like what the radar says. BBC not showing much for here later but GFS showing heavy snow for a few hours at least. Just a case of nowcasting today maybe?

Just been outside, temp up to 0c, suns trying to get out, still got a good inch of untouched snow from Saturday where its in the shade or the kids haven't trampled it, radars are still showing me in a dry patch which is correct for now!

Strangely we have very hazy cloud over Leeds which is quite bright. The temperature is however -2C so anything that falls will be snow or freezing rain.

Models still indicating 9pm to be the switch point.

Looks like the mystery precipitation reformed south of Leeds anyway.

Reef, i recall a similar thing happened to some showers in the north sea during Dec 10.

Wow, could've swore that i saw a snowflake.

That precipitation appears to be moving a bit further east now - wonder what it will deliver, the temperature is approaching freezing here

The reason why the radar is picking up precipitation and nothing is falling is probably due to the radar picking up a magnified signal. When water freezes is becomes more substantial/massive, and so the radar will pick this up and show it as heavier precipitation.. even if the preciptation isn't reaching the ground. If it was normal precipitation (not freezing precipitation), the radar would probably show it as very light/none existent. So it's down to the volume ratio of water vs ice. So you either have snow falling up there, or ice.

That's something I picked up when reading about the US ice storm events.

Radar shows show an undercut like signature on the east coast when you run the last two hours.

Light freezing rain now, looks very weird.

The longer this band takes, the more snowfall later.

Some 'frozen rain' here, but stopped now.. I suspect it'll just become plain old rain when the ground temperatures warm up.. then snow in the evening hopefully

NMM has upgraded the snowfall potential for Leeds.

Percipitation starting as freezing rain which turns to snow around 1pm.

13-15 mm projected for west Yorkshire.

Perhaps 10cm of snow.

The more this day goes on the more it feels to me like we are going to miss out on the good stuff here in Sheffield. I feel it will be more to the South East of Sheffield where the main snow will be. Sheffield and anywhere further North and West will see a cm or 2 maximum?

Anyone thinking similar?

Very light snow grains in York, but definitely not rain.

Between 6-10mm, the further west you are the better. Also don't worry if the PPN misses you, its the area over the North Sea that pushes in and should be primarily of snow.
