The storm that just formed over London, about as boring as anything... one thunderboom and a flash of lightning with light rain.

Formed out of nothing..... but lots of Anvils about at the moment.

loads of anvils around today, but no thunder/lightning here, or hail, seems like the Stoke area had lots of anvils all day

It remained completely dry all day again here with not one drop of rain falling at all.. plenty of convection today to my east, south, and west however.

Looking at the RainToday radar I made the right choice by taking advantage of the mostly sunny skies today (until recently), because we just missed out.

Well today at around 4pm we had a lovely storm Lots of lightening thunder and the sky went black a perfect April day not had such a good storm in about 3 years here maybe 4. Gave us 6mm of rain in 1.5 hrs with hail thrown in too.

Woohoo! Got a storm here this afternoon, not a huge one or anything special but about an hours worth of rumbling and flashes. Lots of incloud lightening and saw a few fantastic cloud to cloud forks. Lots of hail and rain too. Probably equal with El Gordo of last year.

No storms here in southend yet today, lovely cloudscapes though, firm anvils all around! Have been watching the Kent 'monster' rumble it's way to the coast all afternoon.

Seen a few massive anvils around today but they have all been way north and east of me and I'm stuck with this damn northwesterly wind, the sooner this northern air flow sets in the better!

Nice cell passsing southbound... I believe it's west of, or overhead Heathrow. Looks to be towering to at least FL350 (35,000ft)

and the one lightning on the ATD detector throughout the whole of London is my location. haha!!

Cannot be to bad, two aircraft have just gone through it at FL330 and FL160. Just looking on my radar box.

Going to go get another picture, looks amazingly thundery, yet I doubt it's doing much!!!

And whatever that is south west of Heathrow, looks bloody immense.

Nope, the highest one I saw was FL410

The highest for most commercial jets is about that, depending on aircraft type. Your casual easyJet or British Airways is about FL390 maximum. (39,000ft)

London TMA this evening at 1854 (London Local time) 1753z, these are Mode S transmissions only, so probably only represents 60-70% of the total number of aircraft in the air. Older aircraft don't have Mode S installed as it's not mandatory, but most carriers now have it.

Some great pictures out there. Looks like it's been an active day!

NW London Storm shields are working perfectly you'll be pleased to hear. Not a single drop of rain yet.
