Maybe that's why convection kicked off early with a cold front through the east mids to the wash, Cambridge maybe in line for thunder late afternoon.

A couple of cold-core funnels (scud) trying to form on the inflow of the convergence here locally, however obviously being scud they amounted to nothing. Currently moderate rain with the other side of the valley still in sunlight.

sometimes the showers merge to form a messy rain area later in the day, but with little or no thunder...

Just heard a clap of thunder coming from Cheltenham way.

First of the year, even if it is distant!

Very pronounced dry slot around N Wales and NW England......typical

Haha. In these sort of scenarios, my area seem to miss most as well. Probably because it develops more as it heads inland.

If it was heading more southerly rather then SSE today, then it'd probably reach me. May still get the odd moderate shower though...

Where I live, generally the best storms come from imports coming up from the South(if it lasts across the channel), or when fronts stall coming in from the W/SW, bumping into hot, unstable air coming from the S/SE.

Anyway, enjoy any storms you get today guys :) Things look like they are building up nicely on the satellite images and radar.

It's really really frustrating. It's been dry for the last 3 days here. Getting sick of the cr**p weather here!

Just heard a couple of rumbles here in Nottingham, it's from the stuff west of here.

Got my camera videoing the area so hoping to capture some lightning :)

That one only gave us very heavy rain and a little hail. It was only as it headed away further south that I started hearing thunder.

@ Chris R- yeah, can't even get rain to fall under LOW pressure! I'm sure Carl in Wrexhan will not be surprised by the radar either. It's situations such as these which kept both of us mainly thunderless last year.

I am getting impatient lol! Things are looking good on radar but it's going to be a few hours yet before anything significant hits us

don't remind me.

The irish sea can surtainly be either a help or a hinderance, and it's really being a hinderance today.

I did warn certain posters on Tuesday that in this situation the Irish Sea would be a hinderance, on the contrary to what some people thought it may help produce. Even a due northerly would have helped today. However we are on the wrong side of the Pennine/Peak convergence with a light NW'ly flow when we need a NE'ly.

Random rumblings here and a sky that can't decide to be blue, white or black at the mo!

Well I was hoping those cells over the Pennines would continue to intensify and move south but doesn't look like it's going to happen now..

We really needed the flow to come from the south or south east so the showers pass over as much land as possible, although I did well out of RPM flows ffrom theSW last year and the year before. The coldfront and ploom situation seems to usually be a good one for this region as well.
