Had a low of 18.2C last night and it felt muggy too which isn't the best for a good nights sleep! Still a lovely day to come and looks like I could actually be one of the warmest parts of the country for a change! Already 19.6C at 7:13am, 27C today looks like the high here :)

Just wondering, This current hot spell has been warmer and longer then expected, with hints that itll stay warm/hot throughout next week, seeing May out.

Now whilst hot spells at this time of the year are common enough, im struggling to remember such a prolonged and widespread hot spell since 1970.

Several I would imagine , I think 89 a lot of warm/hot day in mid late May ,temps mid 80s but may have that year wrong, but as you say not that uncommon , i'm sure there have been more since 1970, Mr Data ?

Definitely not a record breaking May spell at a national level, it really only started Monday, the way the opening post comes across, you think it has been going for most of May. There have been May spells where the temperature has got into the 30Cs. There were warm May spells in 1992, the second half was very warm and thundery. Mid-May 1998 was very warm and there have been others.

Very nice but not particularly exceptional for most parts.

What do you mean by the warmest May temperature? The warmest May temperature is 32.8C on the 29th May 1944. The current spell coincided with a hot spell in May 1922 where temperatures were recorded above the 30C threshold on 4 consecutive days. Incidentally that summer was horrendous!

Gobsmacked!! 19.2C at 8:40am.

Without sounding crazy, 30C is NOT out of the realms of possibility today.

already 21.7C here, I think today could be the warmest day of the spell so far for the channel coasts, provide there isn't too much onshore breeze interference, need to focus on this afternoon exam today, but i'll still enjoy it when I can, glad the week-end is still 23-26C down here when I can sit outside all day and not need to study for exams!

St Bees and Isle of Man up there with the top temps, such a rare sight in summer. Hope this Easterly wind stays!

Looking great for North West England and the south coast today with this easterly. Here it is actually less clear now than it was yesterday afternoon. Granted it was very dull first thing yesterday here but the afternoon was hazy but cloudless. This morning there is quite a bit of high cloud which means the sky is perhaps not as blue as expected.

Now 21.7C.

We're heading for 30C today, and that is not a joke. 7 hours until the temperature is at it's peak.

Not sure about that backtrack winds are forecast to pick up around lunch time, would be very surprised should we see 30c

23C already at Keswick, perhaps one of the most favoured locations in the country in an easterly being such a sheltered spot.

Wind won't make much of a difference this side of the Pennines, and they shouldn't pick up from their current levels much at all.

A cloudy and cool start. I hope it recovers later on to bring 3 consecutive 25C+ days here in Glasgow and something even warmer somewhere else.

If the temperatures keeps on climbing at this rate, it will certainly be the hottest day of the year in Sussex! Already almost as warm as the max yesterday!
