What a corking storm this evening :D Happened to look out of the front window and saw some interesting structure so leapt in van and shot down the road to get some pics, amazing seeing lightning flashing through clouds lit by the setting sun! Hurtled back down lane, grabbed husband and drove out to watch and take more pics, some fantastic lightning but too busy oohing and aahing to get any shots :D Came back home when it got a little too close and rather wet and sat outside to catch the rear end, more lightning and an incredibly close strike which made us both swear a bit :D Unfortunately my camera has decided not to talk to my laptop so pic unavailable cray.gif

Took a trip to my nan's today just on the outskirts of north London and apart from one 15 min shower we had dry and often sunny weather all day, hell, whilst it was peeing it down on the ladies marathon we were outside doing the gardening and fixing a bird nest box, just goes to show what a few short miles can do. (as opposed to those long miles do blum.gif )

estofex update still has storm risk for the south east

for tomorrow

PPVE89.gif?31415

hopefully the far south east will see something tomorrow

we need a west to east flow

blasted channel keeps killing our storms

fax for rest of week

PPVI89.gif?31415

ridge of high pressure over the south east

should stay dry and be reasonably warm

cloud cover may be an issue though

may be a light shower later in the afternoon but low risk

PPVK89.gif?31415

high pressure in control

very slim chance of a shower east anglia way

25 degrees possible

PPVM89.gif?31415

dry sunny and warm

26 degrees

PPVO89.gif?31415

132_30.gif

dry sunny and warm

can see a 28 degrees possible from this clapping.gif

Not very interesting at first but the clouds were very low and VERY keraunic looking. biggrin.png There is the sound of a wreck of a car then a man saying "I'm not going to ask" to me. The lightning is to left of screen just after that. Wish I'd got it more to centre of screen. But hey, I'm excited cos it's the first time EVER I've filmed lightning. Oh, then you hear my ghastly Yorkshire tones. biggrin.png

Thats a great capture K, and 'shotgun' thunder too. Its music to my eyes and ears in this storm starved enclave of north west London so thanks for posting it. Nowt wrong with your Yorkshire accent either btw drinks.gif

Morning Steve.

Hi K, unfortunately I'd dropped off to sleep again by that point.

I'll say a proper good morning to you and everyone else now!biggrin.png

Who'll get the almost inevitable storms today? You're probably in the favoured zone for our region (againwhistling.gif )

Morning has broken, blackbird has spoken!

Hope all well with everyone, sunshine poking out from some grey clouds here but not expecting much to happen here today, storm wise anyway!

Great video K, love that proper thunder sort that makes doors rattle, excellent!

Hope you all have fab day!

:)

Thanks BB. Yes, it was a very sharp crack but thankfully I was prepared and didn't even flinch except to exclaim in awe. :D

It looks like the only current storm is south of Ashford. I think things will pick up quickly from now though...

So much rain last night from heavy showers in the early hours. Really torrential stuff thundering on the roof.....no lightning though overnight here in Essex.

  • April 2024 - Was it that cold overall? A look at the statistics

General perception from many is that April was a cold month, but statistics would suggest otherwise, with the average temperature for the whole month coming in just above the 30 year average for the UK as a whole.
