i see storms building during the afternoon and may see some just after dark as well

estofex take on this

... UK and N France...

Diurnal heating will create some hundred J/kg of CAPE in a weakly sheared environment. Most of the convection will develop during the afternoon and some storms might produce an isolated large hail event or a weak tornado but overall risk is too low for a LVL1.

Morning everyone. I'm venturing up to Littleport this morning to see a dog show and then hoping to find a nice little pub somewhere for lunch.

Typical I knew if the MK storm shield broke it would be while I'm away, but I still wouldn't swap this not even for two foot of snow ! It's got hotter each day so far and already it's a scorcher just had a walk along the beach to burn off the pancake and bucks fizz breakfast, going back to laze by the pool now until lunchtime. I've seen the Met O warnings ....wish you were here ? Lol

Good morning all SE & EA posters, its a mixed bag weather wise here in NW London. When I left work from Heathrow at 6am the sun was shining, 15 miles and 30 minutes later as I reached the 'foothills' of Northwood mist and low cloud was shrouding the area. Patches of light drizzle have added to the general gloom since then so Im calling it a day, and taking some well earned sleep.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend, and fingers crossed for something thundery during the day.

Good morning smile.png Well after a glorious start to the day here in Biggin Hill, there are now huge black clouds. Heard one roll of thunder. Would love a really good storm though. Have a good day all!

Ah it's a very nice place is Littleport. All my ancestors are from that area. Hope you get a storm while you're there. In my limited experience the flatter the ground the better the storm. And all that water. Hope you have fun at the dog show. :D

Not a drop here in SE Essex today, seem to be in the clear slot between the 2 active areas, did not see a drop of rain yesterday as well and had a great bbq, I usually rate a summer on the number of BBQ's we have or go to and so far we are at 7 which is 3 more than the whole of 2011 so this summer is pretty damn good for the first week of August!

Good luck all with your Storms today.

There does seem to be a big cell forming away to the WSW of here, and sliding slowly n'ward. I might even have heard a rumble?

Absolutely tipping it down here in Chelmsford. One large crack of thunder so far. I got soaking wet putting garden equipment away in a very short space of time.

  • April 2024 - Was it that cold overall? A look at the statistics

General perception from many is that April was a cold month, but statistics would suggest otherwise, with the average temperature for the whole month coming in just above the 30 year average for the UK as a whole.
