Ok thanks, I just quickly browsed the MOD thread. Same old really, can't make sense of anything through conflicting posts.

I see the MOD thread is on a downer again for some reason, only the other day/ yesterday maybe, were those 70's charts showing and folk were very upbeat.

That is what is termed, reading too much into one set of runs syndrome.

Try not to worry, just stick to the more seasoned posters or leave the interpretations of what is come, by following Ben Camb, JP et. al from within this very regional. good.gif

Less than a week to go till the South East and East Anglia festive meet up and there's a chance for some back edge snow for the occasion...

that would be cool wouldn't it? - starts off raining then turns to snow, shame I can't come along to witness the glee on everyones faces (-:

Interesting week of weather coming up - room for plenty of Surprises smiliz34.gifsmiliz21.gifw00t.gif

I noticed that too laugh.png

-0.2 °C here at the moment, there are still patches of last nights frost on my front path - I'd be happy to be in the pink bit or even the yellow tonight.... I'm going out later and I've decided to wear my new faux fur gilet to keep me warm smile.png

Matt Taylor just went out to Wednesday and snow graphics were showing across most of the region.

I'll take that, thank you very much :-)

He did say only light snow, but who cares... It's SNOW

Yes a pressure rise over Iceland/Greenland look to be the form horse at the moment, from there it shifts to Scandinavia and becomes

a more solid blocking feature.

If you look to the east on that chart you can see the beast, two eyes and mouth ready to gobble us up rofl.gif

Excellent John.

I just read Meto forecast on website out to Dec 16th - mentioning milder interludes for the south and west late in the period, could this be from potential channel lows or Atlantic battles?

Either way, I hate seeing the word 'Mild' in there

:-(

I think we could have an interesting few hours tonight, my weather station is registering -3.4 in Canterbury, Metoffice predict +1 for this time.

So either the warm moist air is taking longer to arrive, or it is going to arrive on time with much colder air in front.

Now unless I am mistaken colder air is denser and thus harder to shift out the way, this could well extend the battle ground time.

As I said , could be wrong but I think a sleety or even snowy mix could occur in the early hours.

if we see milder i am not sure from where at presentsmile.png

By the end of the run we should see pressure build over scandi, then the link up.

Well I've got my sceptical hat on in regards to snow.

I'd rather it snow hard enough to leave a couple of feet and give me days off work than snow only a little bit meaning I have to go to work in absolute chaos that a mm of snow brings.

Nabbed this off Wunderground for my location.

Overcast with a chance of snow and rain after midnight. Low of 0C (-1C at the moment). Breezy. Winds from the SSW at 10 to 25 km/h. Chance of snow 60%.

Lauren you live in the UK. Welcome any kind of snow be it a couple of feet or mm... :-)

You want a couple of feet? Move to norilsk in Russia.

  • April 2024 - Was it that cold overall? A look at the statistics

General perception from many is that April was a cold month, but statistics would suggest otherwise, with the average temperature for the whole month coming in just above the 30 year average for the UK as a whole. A warm first half to to the month averaged out the cold second half. View the full blog here
