Well, we're off to Cyprus in the morning to try and get our snow from this place - just 30 mins drive from our house. Fingers crossed it doesn't melt before we get there:

Hi all. Done the family rounds today. Hope you all had a nice Boxing Day and all wore your lovely Christmas present sweaters. :D

It's chucking it down here in Ippy but earlier it was lovely looking out over the bleak and windy fields from the top of my sisters house this afternoon. Love it like this. :)

If we all buy these and place them against a garage wall I'm sure in six weeks time we will be sitting here so glad that we did when they have sold out, if it doesn't snow we can all practice water skiing down the local river which now covers a mile widebiggrin.png

After posting about my new weather station I have just noticed the wind speed has not been recording for a while, have been out and moved the cups around and it appears to jam after a few secondssad.png . It's too far up for anything today and i can only think something inside has worked loose, I notice Maplins have spare ones although out of stock at the moment which may have to be the way if it's a sealed unit.

Anyway raining again here.

Hi chris, yes he got it from maplins.I hope you get it sorted x

Well it's all happy in the Shotski household, Mrs Shotski has got her Kindel Fire, the boys have got

their toys and I've got my thermal socks & pants so all's good good.gif

Anyway the models are starting to look interesting for a POTENTIAL cold spell going into the new year.

ECM 12z shows the azures high ridging up and sitting to the west of the uk, not a cold set up for us

by any means but a good starting point.

Compare the recent output to what we saw early Jan 1987

Add into this a possible strat warming event at the start of the month and a possible PV split we could easily

see a blocking high sitting over scandinavia and a cold/very cold Easterly flow.

The 500mb chart shows a high sitting to the west of the uk early part of Jan.

Morning All! biggrin.png

I saw a fairly full moon and stars on the drive in, so the heavy rain isn't quite here yet.

Any other mugs at work today?

This mug is in work early, but will leave at 2 to 2:30, so can keep the option of a few more seasonal celebratory beers open, this afternoon.drinks.gif

I got my eye on the stuff over north wales and what that spits out and where it will track could be a lot of rain if it sinks south wards

I personally reckon it'll just head due mostly east, with any southward movement limited to north of the Thames. Only a guess though. :)

Rain over Wales is in association with a convergence as picked up excellently on the NMM model overlay via NWRadar. Clear skies to the north here in the Peak District but some tasty looking convective developments looking to the south. BBC has been reporting from the wetlands center in London all morning with the front now overhead.

I wonder if it'll follow the track indicated by the NMM model?
