I'll admit I never measured with a ruler, but in the centre of grimsby there was easily 4-6 inches on top of my car when I left work at 4.30pm!

They do look beefy. Hope we get some more here in Rotherham. Wonder if we can manage a trough in the easterly flow..

BTW is the radar broken. Big chunks of precip just vanish

Seems that some warmer air has moved in behind the front, for the temperature got no higher than 1.0C during daylight hours but maxed at 2.3C recently. Still cold enough for falling snow (a flurry out there right now) but the snow on the ground has thawed a bit.

If you look at NW radar you will see that the pivot point was right over here, HU17, with the snow moving in a cirular motion around us. However, as I mentioned earlier, from this direction here the N York Moors destroy any preciptation and, if you look at the radar you can see that happening. That's it now for tonight here as the precipitation has fragmented to the north and will be moving South from here: there is already Snow South of the Humber from this band that haas circled round us.

Hopefully once this band has passed, the cold air from the continent will be drawn in again and temps will drop.

Been fun today though eh?

0.2C here, been fluctuating between 0.0C and 0.4C. Looks like its going to be a little too far west to land iMBY.nea.gifmega_shok.gif

Birdhouse update!!

As I'm typing it's Still snowing! Fairly light with the odd heavier bursts. Dew point just tipped over freezing though at 0.2C so some coastal modification maybe kicking in.

As i mentioned earlier traffic was horrendous through the town and radio York were reporting people stuck in their cars for 2 hours and only moved 500 metres!

A truly epic day and one i'll remember for a long time!

Outlook is promising too!

Sums up today's events quite nicely really! It just shows that even in one region of the UK - let alone the UK as a whole, local weather conditions can vary greatly.

Fascinating stuff, and to think we have a whole week of this to come. The outlook doesn't look very snowy at the moment, but I would be surprised if we don't get some heavier snow showers moving off the North Sea midweek looking at the Easterly wind that is currently forecast to strengthen a little during the next 48 hours.

We could also have a massive snow event at the weekend if things go in our favour. Exciting times. good.gif
