I think the double update in Meto warnings may have something to do with the latest high res model changes and subsequent fax correction as posted in model thread. No surprise to see an underestimation in the slide.

Is the update better for us?

BBC and METO both showing light snow for 3 days solid in Medway, should get something!

I would like to see that amber spread east though!

This is going to be a stupid question, but I need to ask because it's bugging me.

Why does higher ground get more snow? I understand in marginal setups higher ground is best because it's colder, but when temperatures are perfect for low lying areas too, why does the snow still accumulate more over higher ground?

It depends on wind diretion, so while the wind is blowing SE any SE facing slops will catch the snow, and the other side gets whats left.

My mum has just texted me asking whether it's safe to have a bet with her work mates over whether it's going to snow or not.. I said yes. So, when we get absolutely nothing tomorrow you can blame me

On the Met O warning I notice that there's a mention of 15cm of snow falling in western parts of amber area within 3-6 hours. I thought this was a longer event or do they mean the heaviest in that time?

Now here is a thought for us down here, if the wind is strong enough and pulling lower uppers and dew points to you think we might get a convective kick off the warm sea.

Orography (local lie of the land) will beef up those 'light' showers. BBC SouthEast weather even mentioned the Downs ...

Hey folks!

So the met office & bbc are suggesting continuous snowfall for nearly 48 hours in London. Surely that can't happen, right? I mean, that's impossible! Never known it, and I'm sure it'll more likely be sporadic.. an hour of snow, a few hours of cloud etc.

South-East Forecast - http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/me2

London Forecast - http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/sw12

(Weirdly the same forecaster, thats a pretty cool trick)

Seems alright except they haven't even noticed that most area's got above freezing quite comfortably today, so if they can't get that right how about the rest.

The further north and east you are in the region then probably not. And I suspect that PS's book should have the original favourite back in front.

However one should consider this as a short term loss for long term gain - remember that this is probably just the first slider and each one tracks further north and east.
