Where do they get the names? speckled hen, Golden hen? What have hens got to do with cider?

Something to do with a car. Old Speckled 'un or similar. Can't remember exactly.

Dew points, sleeting, NAE, etc.

That's why i was wondering about Burrator... might still be able to get to that part near Dousland. Have to play it by ear I guess.

Dousland is still 200m asl so should get a good covering there....

Should think so sheepstor is 350 m asl so you would hope they get it there. Leather Tor opposite is higher still. MInd you if its obviously white out there Plymouth will decamp to the moors so get there early!

You are very right mate!!

Don't believe a word of it! Never snows in Cheltenham!

Good luck overnight Chris and Rhi!

Surface wind is still southwesterly, but clouds are moving in a more south southeasterly direction.

The previously predicted scenario starting to occur & hopefully temps to drop & low dewpoints.

Currently sat in Westbury on my way back from Eastleigh. Got a hour in the yard here.

Currently very light rain/sleet here. Very cold though.

Some School have already been closed in Basingstoke for Friday because it might Snow. Crazy, how stupid will they look if the snow does not arrive or is minimal. How would I explain that to the kids, no school due to snow, but you can't play as no snow.

I think the front is coming in from the SW a bit earlier than forecast. So my hunch is that parts of the Westcountry may miss out on the snow that is currently forecast, as the precipitation moves east before the colder air moves west.

Just lifted this from theweatheroutlook forum where current thoughts for devon and cornwall (excluding the moors) is not good

Completely O/T but for dancing daisy's benefit:

“I believe that ‘Old Speckled Hen’ was first brewed to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the MG car factory. Named after an old MG car which was used as the factory run around, the chaps in the factory would park the old MG Featherweight Fabric Saloon outside the paint shop where it would normally get spattered in paint and so it became known as the ‘Owld Speckl’d Un’. This became ‘Old Speckled Hen’ when the beer was unveiled. Since then the finely balanced beer with a distinctive rich, malty taste and fruity aroma has attracted many fans, and I’m certainly one of them.â€

P.s its an ale not a cider

Just went back through UKV/UK4 and MOGREPS snow accumulations for S coast. I think most of you will see snow, even if only temporarily into morning, anywhere from around circa Salcombe-Exmouth eastwards. Some significant accumulations not far inland.
