Compacted powder snow at 230m on Colley Hill today, the bombhole perfect for sledging. High up in the Surrey Hills, a grey-white mist kept me peering into the distance to spot the usual landmarks as smoke from chimneys 150 vertical metres below at the foot of the escarpment was carried away towards the Azores. There is something special about the squeaking that comes from boots on powder snow, winter mountaineering in Scotland, walking in the Alps in September and one again, I can add to the list, the North Downs after proper snowfall.

AS

Love that sounds of crunching powder snow under me snowboots! Sledging on Epsom Downs was good too - will look up Colley Hill!x

Tom, my match was missing too but think I'm in the second half of the draw? I posted my massive snowfall total (0CM) earlier smile.png

By which I mean, I was in the second set of matches that were posted

O.K, here are the depths from the match-ups in the first half of the draw, totals are in cms.

N.M.R. (No measurement registered), come on people put 4 layers on and get out there and have a measure up.

Chart Viewer, suggested that if a competitor doesnt register a depth at this half way stage, they should forfeit the tie!

I'm tempted but thats a bit harsh but if they DONT REGISTER A DEPTH BY 9 a.m MONDAY, (IF NO MORE SNOW IS FALLING IN THE REGION,I SUPPOSE I COULD EXTEND THAT TO NOON), THEY WILL FORFEIT THE TIE AND THEIR OPPONENT WILL MOVE INTO THE NEXT ROUND. (I'm not shouting really).

A comment on those scores above, I'd wished I'd had a bet the overs in total snow depth JEZZER v.LONDON SNOW.

To think they were matched randomly from Paul S's list, spooky eh.

I will post the scores on the doors in the 2nd half of the draw, in a wee while, too much to take in all at once.

If I've missed anybody's total let me know.

Cheers,

Tom

hi WG, you can drive to Reigate hill carpark, head west about 1/2 mile on foot, then you are out in the wilds (sort of!). It's not an actual bombhole but all around there is fab. Not as good as Leith Hill though, but that's more of a trek to get to. Have you been there?

I am sure you will get more than 1cm tomorrow -

For Others in this thread

1cm = 10 Kentimetres

5cm = 10 Foot Drifts or 50 Kentimetres

Have a come to a dating sited? When in rome...Like every morning I woke up to 8inches this morning air_kiss.gif

11cm of snow though (No over estimation here)

Constant snizzle on and off all day, i'd call it heavy snizzle right now. A light sprinkling covering the dirty slush here and there, always welcome!

Did a sledge run down the "chalk path" today on Reigate/Colley Hill - must be one of the best runs in Surrey - deffo worth checking out if you are in the area. Hoping it gets a top-up tomorrow morning.

Gfs 18z is brilliant for tomorrow and all next week, but it has completely lost the plot by t156 its trying to undercut a 920 low, if we get to t156 as shown on the gfs going forward will either be the mother of all blizzards or massive floods

OK, as i said earlier my pics gave a clue - but if we are allowing for 24hrs later I would suggest 3cms compacted snow left from yesterday (was probably about 5cms when freshly fallen)

Thanx for that, would love to go to Colley Hill but probably a bit of a trek on dodgy winter roads - def for tomorrow while its actually snowing! Been to Leith Hill a few times (beautiful!) but never in the snow - not sure anyone would be able to get there?! Preserved for the lucky ones who live within walking distance!x

Don't expect Godalming to get much tomorrow. What I plan to do is spend all day on this thread moaning about how UNFAIR everything is, how it's all the media's FAULT, and that the snow event is actually RUBBISH anyway.
